Edmunds Used Car Pricing
I'm looking at buying a used car and have used Edmunds.com to price out the value of the car. Edmunds gives 3 values - Trade-in value, Private party value, and Dealer retail price.
I'm buying from a dealer so obviously the dealer is looking at the "dealer retail price" when trying to justify the price of the car. I'm looking more at the "private party" as my approximate goal, but am actually trying to get them to go a bit under the private party value due to the economy.
I know with new cars that these days you can get under invoice, but is it fair for me to offer at or below "private party" value for a used car? What's the best way to negotiate the price down that low?

I'm not sure about purchasing used cars, but when purchasing new, Edmunds shows you the "true market value" of the car. Either way, goodluck on getting the new ride!
hopefully someone can help you out better.
