Cash Purchase Good Deal?

Is this a good deal? $500 Below invoice for cash purchase of a g37 in their inventory? Also it seems they will only go $250 below invoice for anything they have to ship in and they want me to pay shipping $450 - $1025 depending on the location of where the car is. This is a Cali dealer.

2008 G37 Journey, Black Exterior, Graphite interior with performance tire and wheel package:

MSRP $37,065
Invoice $34,245
Dealer price: $33,745 plus tax and license
$55 Documentation Fee
$331.75 DMV
$2,619.50 Sales Tax based on San Juaquin County

$36,751.25 Total Sales Price

Personally speaking, keep your cash; invest it wisely; let your hard earned money work for you.

I would lease the car or finance it for 0% interest if you can get it. Dealers don't care whether you lease, finance or pay cash.

If your numbers are correct, buying a G37 below invoice is a sweet deal.

Agreed. Under invoice is good, keep in mind 09's are around the corner also. IMO, paying cash doesnt net you a better deal as the dealerships would rather you finance so they can make interest off of your payments. Interest rates now are so low though, 0.9-2.9 i think? I'd invest the cash and just finance it.

Invest the money

Emigrant direct and ING I believe have the most competitive rates ( as of today ) for FDIC insured deposits.

I think HSBC gives you 3.5% APY. Are these accounts basically online savings accounts with higher interest rates than banks give?

If you're Cdn, you can avoid any Cali sales tax by having the car shipped instead of driving it back to Canada. Once you drive it yourself on Cali rds, you have to pay their taxes.

If you're willing to haggle hard, the savings would be pretty slim now. You can get probably get $3 - $3.5 K off msrp on a similar car in Canada now, plus the $4500 cash rebate. Someone recently got $4 K off msrp on a nearly loaded G in Ont, before the rebate. The rebate is applied before taxes, so it's really worth more than $4500 ($4500 + taxes on the $4500). Factor in $1 - $1.5 K for shipping & I'd be tempted to just buy in Canada (I imported months ago).

The 09 is hot, 7 speed auto transmission, self-healing paint, AWD. I really wished they had those things on the 08.

The base g37 in canada is 49,000 MSRP. If i do manage to get 3.5k and then 4.5k rebate. that would bring it down to 41,000 before tax. After 12% tax..It will be $45,920

So in the end I would still save about 7k if I import...

In the states they would sell for Invoice - $500, which would be $32,858 -500 =$32,358

That is if I can get it done in Washington, and drive back myself.

The Cdn base G37 is not the same as the US. The Cdn base is the US Journey + premium pkg. The premium pkg is $3,200. The US MSRP is $39,615. $500 under invoice is $35,802.

The US dollar is worth more than the Cdn dollar now ($1 US = $1.01), + the currency trader will make $.01 off each dollar, so it'll be about $1 US = $1.02 Cdn.

$35,802 x $1.02 = $36,518
+ 6.1% duty = $38,746
+ 12% taxes = $43,396
+ $440 miscellaneous fees (RIV, DRL, wire payment) = $43,836

That assumes you have DRL done at Cdn Tire for $185, which is much cheaper than the $500 it'll cost at a Infiniti dealer. Shipping varies, but I checked DAS for a rough quote (DAS is the biggest car shipper in the US). Total is US $1,795 ($1,212 + insurance + top placement + pickup).

$1,795 x $1.02 = $1,831
Cdn $41,000 + 12% taxes = $45,920
US $43,836 + $1,831 = $45,667

You have to haggle hard to get that Cdn price, but there's more work in importing.

You won't get $500 under invoice in Washington. Dealers in states that border Canada sell to Cdns for much more than dealers further away. This has been reported by many who imported, myself included.

What if I get the base model, in Washington? and drive it up myself...They may not go below invoice, but maybe little over invoice?
