At this point, is it silly to get an '08?

What's up gang... I've only recently found this forum (and by the way, seems to be the best site dedicated to the 37 community ). After a solo 30-mile test drive and roughly 2 months or so of 5-hours-per-day internet research, I'm pretty much sold on the G37...

but NOW, it's like - should I just wait another 3-4 months for the 09s?? I'm somewhat concerned about the potential oil consumption issues (although I'm leaning toward the auto trans) and the couple of TSBs I heard about (engine rev upon braking, etc) -- and under the assumption that the '09 will have these and other issues addressed (2nd year of a new model and all)....

What do you think? Some answers in advance:

1.) No, I'm not in a position where I *need* a new car right now.

2.) Yes, I am an impatient guy who wants what he wants when he wants it (been driving the same Toyota for almost 10 years now).

3.) No, I have not made up my mind on the precise color/option combo I want. Hell, I think i'm still open-minded to a Journey w/o Sport pkg (would that be blasphemy? )

4.) Yes, I would be crushed if I bought a 5AT this weekend, only to have a new 6AT roll out in 3 months (with other possible improvements).

Man, it's been tough. I have anxiety about this purchase in general... worrying about new dealer inventory being handled aggressively by carefree personnel or test drivers (with the importance of break-in on my mind, i've been obsessing over the mileage of some of the cars I've seen on the lot... 23 miles, 56 miles, 84 miles). And even then, I'm not sure what color I should go for (def graphite interior, but as for exterior, I've only "narrowed it down" to blk/plat graph/diam graph/ivory).... and of course, finding the right combo of options with the right color.... PS: why would they not produce a Sport edition with the Rosewood trim? Stupid!

Hey, sorry to ramble here... how about some of your personal pre-purchase experiences? And in general, should I just wait? Is it a good assumption that 09s will be out same time this year as last year's roll-out (aug.)?

I would wait if I was in that situation.

I'm impatient as well, but if I've already driven the same car for 10 years, I'm sure driving the Toyota for a few more months until the '09 model comes out would be easy

The '09 might have a new color/option combo that could match your desires much better than what is available now.

edit: by the way someone else had a similar post...https://www.myg37.com/forums/buying-and-leasing/180659-buy-now-or-wait-for-the-09-a.html

Nothing official on the '09 G37... but I guess that would be a logical conclusion, given the 7AT for the new FX.

All I know is, the thought of driving this '99 Solara for another summer is ab-so-lute-ly killing me.

Don't assume there will be a 7sp AT until there is an OFFICIAL announcement from Infiniti, not from some internet site/Infiniti salesman/manager.

IMO, I would wait until July or so when there is some more deffinate information on the '09s available, see if there is anything new you must have vs. saving several thousand off an '08 prior to the '09 being released. You're in no rush so wait it out a bit!

I wouldn't put my money on this until like DiamondGCoupe suggests and wait for some sort of formal announcement, family or not. I'm a sales manager and I've yet to hear of any changes whatsoever at this point.

Dave - do you recall when formal specs were announced for the '08 G37? Or would it be a different ballgame for the '09 since it is year 2 for the model...

If I recall, the formal specs were announced in March or April '08 and the new coupe was launched on August 21, 2008. We're now in May and I can't order any '09 models just yet, so nothing to date has been announced. I really don't think the '09 will get the 7AT but then again, I'm just guessing.

Given the crappy current gas mileage, you'd think it would be a slam dunk.

But minimally, would you think most of the issues found with the '08 (rev while braking, oil consumption, etc.) would be corrected?

Guys, there really has been no oil consumption on the G37 engine. I believe only one person on the forum has reported any problems. No one else seems to be having this so it is not a problem with the 08 model.
