haste makes waste
Ok, I'm tradeing in my Altima coupe saturday (or have plans to if the deal is what im looking for)
I paid 22k for it, and would like 18k trade-in... so its not a huge huge loss.
there was a dealer in knoxville, tn that offered 18k for the trade-in and to sell me a red 6mt g37 with premium and nav for 39,000 + taxes, title, tags etc. (no processing fees though) (payoff on car is 6k)
the thing is that my closes infiniti dealer is about an hour away, in winstom salem , NC , and to go to knoxville is another 3 hours. so i want to check and try and make the deal in NC first because its going to save me a LOT of time.
i tried negotiating with the man from NC over the phone but he wants me to come in person. so i scheduled an appt for saturday ... knowing how car dealers are, i would expect him to either offer me 17,500 for trade in, or offer the car at the "lowest price" of $39,500 ...
im not that eperienced with buying cars, if i made the offer to buy the car at 39k with an 18k trade-in , and they didnt meet my demand, should i just walk away? how should i come about negotiating that?

Well you have bargaining power now that you have an existing offer from a dealership. You're basically just talking to this stealership for convenience. Definitely use that to your advantage. Basically make them the offer, if they pull some excuse about how they can't do it then just say you have that same deal at another place. If you're willing to make the 3 hour trip to save money then do it, I would definitely just get up thank them for their time and leave. My bet is they won't let you.
On a side note why are you trading the Altima Coupe for a G37? lord knows every G37 hater believes they look identical and that the Altima is the ultimate sports car compared to the 37

haha i like the coupe very well, but ever since i was like 13 i wanted a g35 .... and its just a dream come true to me! no matter how nice the altima is.... its pretty nice, i'd rather have the g37 over ANYTHING else out there.

I would avoid going into the dealership if at all possible.
Once you're in there, you are out of your comfort zone, and may make bad choices.
Try to deal through email, it gives you time to think, and you can say things to them you may not say in person.
Negotiate the price of the car first, then bring the trade into it.
