Canadian Cash Deal for New G37
I factory ordered my G37 yesterday in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
Here is what I am getting:
Sport Package $51,600
High Tech package $3,900
Pearl White Paint $286
Grand Total: $55,786 Canadian
Cash rebate: $4,500
Additional $1,286 deduction
Free: Avery laser cut bumper, hood, mirrors, door handles, truck protection
Cash total: $50,000 plus GST & taxes
Delivery April 2008
They could not guarntee that the $4500 would be held until April, but I have a clause that clearly states my deposit ($2,000) will be refunded if the $4,500is not available by delivery.

Wow, didn't know the cash rebate was $4500 for a G37! The $1300 is the discount you negotiated right? I'm surprised, I thought it'd be more because new dealers in Canada are feeling the effects of US car prices (at least that's what the news media tells us). Anyways, you should only get it if the rebate still applies when it's delivered. Otherwise, you'd be much better off buying in the US.
Maybe you should just got 1 on the lot if possible, so you're guaranteed the rebate.

Although I think some people are definitely overstating their savings, keep in mind that you can get big discounts off msrp in the US. I'm a Cdn who got $500 under invoice (dealer "cost"), once the $500 rebate was factored. You can also save another $1,000 off shipping costs by having it shipped near the border & driving it into Canada from there. Even though Buffalo is real close to Toronto, the shipping cost from California to Buffalo was half what it would be to ship from California to Toronto.

^ Did you see the "cost" of a G37S in that spreadsheet? Who in the world would pay US$44,000 for G37? That is insane. I bet if I "built" a G37S with tech package, destination and taxes, it would be less than US$44k. So the savings of purchasing in the US would be far more than a "mere" 4%.

So you can "bet" all you want, but you can build the same car I bought for $50,000 CDn plus GST and you get $44,000 US. I wouldnt pull that number out of the air. So please do your homework before saying you can build one cheaper. Anyone could, but the same car, apples to apples is $44000 in the US.
I have said it before, its a personal choice and people that take the US option will always say they saved thousands and thousands. I took the Canadian route and bought cash. So make your bed and lie in it. RRREVIN bought when the CDN dollar was worth 1.10, that saves you an additional 10%, that makes a difference on a $44,000 car. Plus the 4% I had on my spreasheet and you have atleast $6,000 less. We'll that is no longer the case and we are at par with the US dollar.
If it goes back to 1.10 or even better than its really a no brainer.

Comparison for what the avg Cdn likely paid for a Cdn car vs what the avg Cdn likely paid for a US car
Cdn Base $49,000 = US Premium + Net
Rebate $3,000 (most Cdns bought when this was the rebate, not $4,500)
Total $46000
14% taxes (most people bought in 07) = $52,440
US Journey $35,715
Premium Pkg $3,200
Trunk Net $60
Rebate $500 (most Cdns weren't current Infiniti owners, so no $1000 rebate)
Total $38,475 + 6.1% duty = $40,822
14% taxes = $46,537 (most Cdn importers are from Ont)
Bank wire $50 (typically)
DRL $315 (reputable, not Cdn Tire)
= $46,902
$52,440 - $46,902 = $5,538
Assume par dollar (mostly at $1 Cdn = $1.02 US, bank nets 2% profit so par)
Usual US discount can be much more than Cdn discount, but usually they're from farther states where most would pay shipping. Buying from US border dealers got less discount, but no shipping cost (close enough for most Cdns to drive back).
Many Cdns who bought in the US weren't even aware of the $3,000 rebate at the time, based on the fact they didn't mention it when analysing their savings.

Back when there were no rebates
$49,000 + 14% taxes = $55,860
$35,715 + $3,200 (Premium) + $60 (Net) = $38,975
+ $2,377 (duty) + $5,789 = $47,141
+ $50 (bank wire) + $315 (DRL) = $47,506
$55,860 - $47,506 = $8,354
Now
$49,000 - $4,500 (rebate) = 44,500
+ 13 % taxes = $50,285
US Journey w/ Premium & Net = $38,975
- $500 (rebate) + $2,347 (duty) = $40,822
+ 13% taxes = $46,129
+ $50 (bank wire) + $315 (DRL) = $46,494
$50,285 - $46,494 = $3,791
Options on US cars are cheaper, not a big difference though.

They'll will make you pay Duty on the TOTAL of the car. So you'll pay duty on $41,000, not $39,000.
I am not denying they are cheaper but people are full of it and not telling the whole story when they say they bought their G37 from the States and save $15,000 - $20,000.
Is it worth the loss of dealer support, resale value, and brain damage to save a MAX of $5000?
Also, when the dollar is at par, like right now, the bank will not give you $1 CDN for $1 US. You loss up to 5 cents on the costs to exchange.
