How Many Miles Are Too Many For a New Car?

One of the new G37s that I'm looking at has almost 100 miles on it, even though it is still on the lot. Considering how most people would drive a car like this on a test drive, is that too many or am I just needlessly worrying?

I would ony buy it if they would sell it for near invoice. Otherwse, I would wait for another one to come on the lot or order one un testdriven (normally with less than 10 miles on it)

Don't get a demo car as they are usually beat on during test drive. Order a new one, will save you headache in the future if you intend ot keep it for the long run. If it's just a lease, then go nuts a grab it.

It's probably been driven a bit for demo drives. It could also have been sitting on their lot for a while (unpopular options/colors?). You might be able to get a little off MSRP, depends on the dealer.

100 miles wouldn't bother me too much, but I'd check for curb rash, scratches, dings, etc. Take a hard look at the interior trim too - the plastic 'chrome' door pull inserts scratch easily (both of mine have scratches already). Also look at the floor mats - are they worn from the heels of shoes?

If there's anything that's a potential deal breaker, ask them to correct it or hold off for a new-off-the-transport car. Asking for some $$ off won't hurt either.

Mine still had all the wrapping on it when I bought it, my demo drive was in a different car.

Thanks for the feedback!

When I expressed my concerns to the dealer, he tried to reassure me that his dealership does not allow people to drive the cars hard during test drives and that the G37's engine is built to withstand such driving anyways. Which is basically what I expected him to say...

The trouble is that the car is quite far away from me, so it is not easy for me to see it's condition first hand. Based on your responses so far, I am thinking that it is best for me to walk away from this one considering the circumstances. Thanks for the objective feedback during my surge of enthusiasm.

I purchased my car with 93miles on it and they give me a peace of paper saying that the cars was tested on a track for 91miles to make sure that its meets infinitis’ quality control standards.

why do they need to test it for 91 miles on a test track? Were they trying to make sure it wouldn't fall apart after they messed up putting it together?

might as well try to get a discount and if not, order a new one. New one is always better. I'm sure a test driven car would be pushed hard, its a G37, once the car has been pushed hard its a deal sealer.

Not true at all! I test drove a G37, and I drove it hard. Heck, the salesman was telling me to keep going till I reached 5th gear (was using DS).

Mine had 3 miles on it. They might have driven it from one dealer to another or something. Just make sure it still looks clean and you should be good
