Exclamation Nissan/Infiniti Warranty - US to Canada Final Word

Don't ask me how I got this... This is the OFFICIAL word from Nissan/Infiniti on cars brought from the US into Canada.

Read and take heed...

Summary:
The US warranty does apply if the vehicle was:

• Titled, registered, and operated in the US before entry into Canada, and still owned by the original owner, even if re-registered in Canada by the original retail purchaser.

• Titled, registered, and operated in the US before entry into Canada, re-registered in Canada, and then transferred to a second retail owner after six months of the original US sale.

• Titled, registered, and operated in the US before entry into Canada, transferred to a new owner, and then re-registered in Canada after six months of the original US sale.

• In Canada on a temporary basis, i.e., a US person traveling on vacation, to attend school or engage in temporary work in Canada. The vehicle will most likely have a US license plate from one of the 50 US states or the District of Columbia.

Note: Updated information. The enclosed information is for Nissan vehicules only. This does not pertain to Infiniti. See my response below to this item.

There you go. Good news for all Canadian Infiniti cusotmers who want to buy from the US.

Enjoy all.

I replied to this in another post that referenced this post, so here it is again:

It has been known for some time that Nissan has the restrictions that are in that PDF file, but Infiniti has different rules. As far as I know, Infiniti still honours warranty for US cars imported to Canada. Do a 'find' on that PDF and you see that the word 'Infiniti' does not occur even once. That is a Nissan document, not an Infiniti one.

The person whom I got it from, works at a Nissan/Infiniti dealer in Canada. He said this document is for both Nissan and Inifiniti.

However, in the interests of "he could be wrong".. I'll get additional confirmation.

Isn't there a class action suit for that exact matter? I guess this is Nissan/Infiniti's way of saying that they are not afraid and will continue to screw us around

How would a Canadian get a US bought vehicle titled and registered in the US before re-registering six months later in Canada? There was mention about temporary tags from dealer, so are these tags good for six months?

I don't believe there is a practical way to get the car registered in the U.S. and then export to Canada to avoid the Nissan rules as posted by rrrevin. To register a car in the U.S., you have to be a resident of that state. I spoke with an Infiniti dealership in the U.S. on Friday and they also claimed that Infiniti had different rules than Nissan and that the Infiniti warranty would be good in Canada. I am hoping to confirm this with Infiniti on Monday.

Nissan and Infiniti have had different warranty policies for some time. Here is a rundown of manufacturers' warranty policies:

APA Imported Autos Warranty page

As you can see, the latest update is in early August and it clearly shows the Nissan restrictions as you posted already in place and the Infiniti ones being different. The document posted in this thread was more about clarifying the policy than a 'new' policy. Now, that may change. When and if it does, the warranty might become more difficult (or impossible) to get in Canada, but until we know, I would suggest the mods rename this thread because what is posted is not the 'Final Word'.

I spoke with Infiniti USA today. They assured me that any car would receive warranty service in Canada or the USA as long as it is serviced at an authorized Infiniti dealer. There are no registration or residency restrictions. Unfortunately they said there was nothing available in writing to absolutely verify this.

That's good (and reassuring) elbambino. It supports other information I have read about Infiniti. Even though they won't put it in writing for you, I have heard that you can get a 'case number' so at least the info on your conversation is in their system if you need to go back to them.

Having said that, there is a post over on G35driver from a guy in Calgary who says that the service manager at his local Infiniti dealer told him flat out that they won't service it regardless. Typical Canadian retailer response; blame the customer for saving $14,000 when they should be freaking out at Infiniti Canada for saddling them with outrageously expensive product.

I agree that is always a risk in that you could get treated terribly in Canada. However, then it becomes a showdown between the customer phoning and complaining to everyone at Infiniti USA and Canada about terrible service and the dealer's reputation. Also, I visited the same dealership in Calgary and they try to make the consequences of importing sound as terrible as possible. It is in their best interest to discourage Canadians from shopping in the U.S. and I certainly believe they will tell you anything to discourage importing. Always a risk in importing that has to be weighted against the potential savings.
