Excel Spreadsheet Template to help you not get jipped at the dealer. :)

And here's the link to the page. Instructions on how to fill out the Excel Spreadsheet are on page 2 of the Excel download.

Judging from mine, A 6MT w/ Premium, Navi, Tech, illuminated kickplates, should run me...

2% Factory Holdback

5% Dealers profit over Invoice price. (can be between 3-5%)

(courtesy of cars.com)

Invoice Pricing....... MSRP Pricing
$32,688 Invoice.....$35,550 MSRP
$2,757 Premium.....$3,200 MSRP
$1,898 Navi...........$2,200 MSRP
$991 Tech..........$1,150 MSRP
$268 Ill Kick...........$320 MSRP
$38,600 Total..........$42,420MSRP

$848 Factory Holdback (Paid to dealer by factory after car is sold)

$37,751.60 Dealers total cost of vehicle (not including destination charge) = Total Invoice - Holdback - Factory to dealer incentives - Floorplan interest

$1,887.58 Fair Profit over dealers cost

$39,639.18 NEGOTIATED SELLING PRICE OF VEHICLE and FINAL COST TO CUSTOMER (Not including Sales Tax or Tags)

So... What do you guys think? Can it be done?

-------
EDIT: Adding this info from my post #9

So here's some corrections.

4% Profit is $1,509.49 and 3% Profit would be $1,132.12, which seams to be more on point of what you are going to allow them to have. I think I'll do the same . The only way I might give more is if they give free kick plates, tint, and some other perks such as free oil changes for X amount of years, etc.

Doing 3% which is close to what you'd do would bring me to a final cost of $39.584.42 including the Destination Charge. I don't know what my State Sales Tax Rate is here so I can't calculate the final cost. But I'm looking to put down around 30 to 35k and finance the rest. So maybe this deal can be possible since they'll be getting their lump-sum up front.

Where I live, yes you can get about $2.5k off MRSP, as the two dealers servicing this market have over 40 cars on their lots (and more on the way) and need to sell before winter sets in etc. Plus this is a tough time for new car purchasing given the fragile economy. Even BMW is now discounting the 335i coupe by a similar amount. Good time to buy if you are in the market to do so.

How much would you be willing to say BMW is slashing prices on their 335i? Any competition would help me greatly in pricing against the G

One of the dealers near my house, just took delivery of three 335i coupes, the last of the 2007 models. Did not have the color combo I was really looking for and two did not have comfort access. As such, the silver and black ones that I would be interested in buying listed at $47.5k and $48k repectively, and my price was $44.9k before final negotiations. I think this closes the price gap to the G37 if Infiniti dealers stay at MRSP, hence the discounting of the G's too. I will make a decision next week, as I have just sold my '04 G35 Sport Sedan.

The three cars were configured by the dealer as 'spec' or inventoriable cars. Funny the configuration of each aligns very closely with a G37 with Premium pkg. The Bimmers had auto w/paddles, sport pkg, Ipod adaptor, Premium pkg, and only one of the three had comfort access. A similarly equiped G37 would be around a MRSP of $40k, so about a list price premium of ~ $7.5k less discounting of $2.5k. But I am sure the Infiniti dealers here will give me ~ $1.5-2k off a G37. So the premium gap remains around $7m.

I think $1,887.58 profit is more then fair. I had made a spreadsheet to do something similar, but I determined a little over $1K to be fair dealer profit.

I think the deal you came up with can be be done. If it can't be done now, I'm sure I can be done soon. When I start dealing $1K profit will be the max I would be willing to give....if they don't like it I'll wait a couple more months until VPP is available and get the same discount with zero hassle.

So I can go as low as 3 Percent which is a reasonable minimum that's recommended. Also I forgot to put the Destination Charge. So here's some corrections.

4% Profit is $1,509.49 and 3% Profit would be $1,132.12, which seams to be more on point of what you are going to allow them to have. I think I'll do the same . Barely anything, in my area(ct) most 335i's are ordered and the ones on the lot are only discounted $500 off msrp.

I live in NY, I kno someone that was willing to go 1500 off msrp around 2-3 wks ago, dont kno what theyre offering now...
Look I dont know what most ppl's opinion is but mine is as follows: there is no reason for the car's price to be this high (unless infiniti USA will fine a dealer for "displaying" less).
Furthermore, Dealers make a lot of (well maybe decent) money on a car being sold at invoice.
I got an aunt who works at nissan, caddy, one of those all in one dealerships, she got a fully/nicely equipped maxima (msrp 29g) for 20g. Now how can a car being sold at "invoice" be a steal, when the dealers are willing to sell to employees for 8-9g off msrp?
America is business, and as such I believe dealers are entitled to make their money....do ur best to get the car at "invoice", b/c even then the dealers are makin out like bandits, if not...wait...its october, within next month or 2 this car will be very close to invoice....imo

I think that you are right, and Im trying to wait as long as I can before I need to have a car to get from point A to point B. Im moving back to long island on the 14th, so shortly thereafter Im gonna need to handle this. Where in NY you know this person?? Im looking at every dealership around, and have even inquired from a place in Penn. Its crazy that the lease on an M35 is that much less than a lease on the G37, and I dont buy into the demand theory. If there was such a demand, there wouldnt be all these cars on the lots that they are trying to get rid of, there would be a wait involved in getting the car you wanted. Marking it up $1,000 and passing it off as a good deal when you then take away the markup (only because a family member is leasing an M45) is just ridiculous. Let me know what part of NY you found that at if you can. Thanks for the input.
