Worth it? -

So I have an 06 G35 Coupe with Premium Package. I want to dive into the G37S with Premium and Sport and Navigation. The sticker is 41K and that's what I have been offered. Here's the dilemma folks - i have leased the 06 G35 Coupe and they say that to buy my car, it'll be 30K but Ray Catena says the lot sale price is 27.3K so I'm at a $3700 differential. They are ready to tack on this differential to my payments over 39 months...

Lease - Because of that extra $3700, my payments go from what should be $615 to $748/month for 39months with 12K/year and 2K down...

So the pivotal question is, is this worth it? Could I do something different or try another dealer? All/any suggestions would be helpful!

This "deal" is like throwing money down a Rat Hole! Just not a responsible way to handle your money. If it were me, I'd wait until my current car were close to the end of lease term, then look at a dealer trade. You could also pay off your '06 and maybe make some money, as long as you are not upside down on the lease, by selling the car privately. You will never get full value on a trade-in with a dealer; this is just the way it is in the "car biz!"

I'm in a similar situation with my S2000. Right now, it's upside down with a payoff at $24,700. I'll be getting a G37/6MT/Navi/Spoiler in 2008 in the May-June timeframe, when the PO will be about $19.8K.

May do the Dealer trade because I HATE selling cars privately -- a real PITA unless you get a buyer QUICK! It took me nearly 120 days to sell my 2004 TSX on autotrader.com, AFTER I had the new S2K already in the garage -- p-u-c-k-e-r time, BigTime

Those are both crappy situations.

It's for people like us that leasing is a good situation. If I were you, I'd wait until you were at least even on your G35 trade. Then you won't be multiplying your interest (curennt loan payoff * lease interest). Plus, once you aren't upside down, they should be much more willing to deal on the G37s.

Once you do get into a lease, though, I think you'll be happy. I just finished up my 2006 G35 lease, they paid for the extra $500 of overmileage, and I got into the G37 for first month's payment + registration/tags. Easy and pleasant transition with no worries about trade-in etc.

edit: just realized you were trying to get out of a lease not a loan (purchase). How many more months do you have left on your lease? The same logic would still apply...

it might be worth it, to get into a brand new G37 for $120 more per month.

The best financial decision would obviously be to wait until your lease is up.

However, you should be able to negotiate a little since you would be re-leasing with them.

Perhaps you could wait out the winter, negotiate a little in the spring, and then that $3700 gap might be less, and you could get the G37 for maybe $50 per month more? I guess it all depends on how patient you are

I'll have to be patient I guess. I've gone back to pursue to my MBA and I've paid my first semester myself but will be relying on the company for tuition reimbursement but that wont kick in til next semester. I might as well wait since I'll free up some funds then.
