Just wanted to come back and say thanks to every one who bought parts off my G or spread the word about my part out. I closed on my house on the 29th and moved in last weekend. Although I miss my G I look forward to my next project car, whatever it may be. I'll still stop by from time to time. Thanks again everyone!

Here's a picture from my realtor the day I closed, don't mind her captioning...

Awesome day Kirk, that smile says it all!
Look forward to what you end up with, and some lucky folks got a lot of nice parts for sure.
Enjoy the new digs.

Need to mount the GoPro on your forhead and run around the house while making vroom vroom noises.

Go!

GS Build Thread

I was asked by a couple of people to continue my build thread for my GS here, as well as write up a comparison of the G and GS.

Here's the build thread over on Club Lexus. I'll still reply to any comments here, but I'll mainly be over on the CL forums.

Now for my initial review after owning my GS for about a week. I'll start off by saying I realize that the G and GS do not directly compete, but I have seen posts from other members cross shopping the two.

The GS is in a completely different league than the G. The G is definately the drivers car with some nice options, LSD, BBK, 6MT, ect. Whereas the GS is geared more towards luxury that can be somewhat sporty.

I know the GS has a controversial front facia, you either love it or hate it, but I love it. I think it has a much more aggressive look than the G, at least the F-Sport does. If I had to describe the two I would say the GS is more edgy and the G is more safe. Don't get me wrong, I still love the look of a G37S with the front lip, I still do a double take when I see one, but the F-Sport with an after market front lip is more my style.

The one thing I always thought the G lacked was more options. It basically ran from 2007-2015 with the same packages, with minor updates. The GS is absolutely loaded with different features, and every year they add more, and sometimes take the less popular ones away (night vision camera). For instance my GS has blind spot monitoring, power folding mirrors with an auto mode that will fold when the doors are locked, puddle lights that turn on when you're within 3 feet from any of the side doors, touch pad behind the handles for easy entry, power rear sunshade, when you put the car in reverse the side mirrors tilt down the rear window shade folds away and the rear view camera comes on, when you put the car back into drive the rear window shade will come back up once you reach 10mph and if you put the car in park it comes back up immediately, heated steering wheel, automatic heated and ventilated front seats, auto leveling head lights when you turn the car on, when you turn the car off the steering wheel raises the seat slides back lumbar deflates as well as the side bolstering and thigh extension both deflate to make exiting easier and when you turn the car back on everything will re-inflate to the last setting or the memory setting, headlight washers, front and rear parking sensors, of course the LED DRLs which dim when the headlights or parking lights are on, when in sport+ mode the shocks stiffen (which is quite noticeable) the steering wheel tightens up throttle response is quicker and when you get it above 3,500 rpm the intake sound generator pumps intake noise through the speakers which I thought would be kind of gimmicky but its actually pretty cool, there are lights in the foot wells in the front and under the front seats for the rear passengers and in the doors under the aluminum trim that dim when you take the car out of park but when its in park its brighter. Break ducts that cool the brakes and rotors. BBK front brakes. Gun metal F-Sport wheels. I also have the 12.3" navigation screen with Lexus's mouse with haptic feedback which I love. I like that you can connect your phone via bluetooth and be able to run the different apps and not have to pay Lexus to have access to them. I'm sure there are more features I'm forgetting.

Don't get me wrong, I love the G, but I also love having a lot of features in a car which is where the G falls short, but they're two different price points too. For the MSRP for my GS I could have bought a very low milage 6MT and a xS as a daily with some money left over for mods for both cars, luckily I was able to get one hell of a discount through Toyota Manufacturing. I hope to pay it off quickly in order to pick up a used GSF (coming in 2016) in a few years and keep the GS as a daily, but we'll see.

Here are some pictures I've taken since I took delivery.

Delivery day!

Good write up Kirk, thanks.

We could have put some of those options on a G for you you know. Yes, it would have closet like 3x's as much but... Looking forward to seeing it and cruising!

You'll be jealous of the black headliner. Lol. Maybe it'll inspire you to finish your headliner project.

Nice updates Kirk and good review/comparos.
I don't mind the front of the GS compared to the way-loud IS grill, and the profile of the GS is much nicer too.
Glad you're happy w/ your choice and keep the updates posted, it's nice to see what you can do to a GS too

I'm not huge on the IS either, but it has grown on me, just like the RC. For MY16 Lexus is suppose to update the front of the GS to the spindle grille. I'm back and forth on whether it looks good or not, I'm leaning more towards no as of now. I think what gets me on the redesign is the separation of the LED strip from the head light, just like the IS and RC and I'm not a fan.

I hate how small the aftermarket selections are for the GS, definitely not like the G. But I have decided on a couple of things;

first RSR Downsus springs, which are sitting in my garage right now, as well as spacers

TRD front lip

TRD side splitters

Forgestar F14 wheels and PSS

GTHaus EV controlled axleback, then depending on sound maybe mid pipe

JDM Lexus LED headlights and foglights.

But due to come set backs from the dealership and corporate I have to wait on modifying for a couple of months until we get a couple of things resolved.

That's some impressive list of mods in the works.

I've always liked the F14's.

Good pickup on the GS, I've had the pleasure of babysitting someone's and it was a great car.

I really liked the Lexus, definitely jealous of the black headliner. Rode nicely, appropriately quick and very roomy. He wouldn't trade though...

I'm sure it's an impressively upscale experience. Quite a lot of car for a young person, so you can only imagine what he'll be driving in another 20 years.
