With a white car, my thought is to leave them as is. It's far too slippery a slope to go full Oreo with the whole Black & White theme. If I could do anything, I'd like to darken the chrome without actually going black. I've considered buying a can of VHT Nite-Shade to play with, and see if that could work. I know blnewt has some skills there.
The tips are 3.5" Round single-wall Magnaflows, with a 45 degree slash cut. They're custom cut and welded directly to the cans. The OEM tips were cut off with a hacksaw. I keep one of them on the shelf here in my office as a bookend. Kind of a memento. They really are garbage, IMO.

There are some other small, details that only I notice, but you've hit on the one that really bugs me. The only solution would be to rip it all off and start over, and I think when it gets to that point, I might have it painted instead.

Your engine bay has me drooling, Rochester. Very well done.
I think I'll give mine a little TLC this long weekend, as you've now made me insecure about the leaves and dust making homes in my engine bay.

For background, zero2sixty had one of the nicest modified 5.5 Gen Maxima's going, for many years on Maxima.org.

In May 2013, I saw a few engine covers here on the forum that were custom painted, where the silver area of the cover was another color. I liked the idea, and got it into my head that gold was the way to go. But gold was too *gold*, so I went with a light, satin gold-ish color.
Except that after a while it just looked yellow to me. And not quite right. Plus, there were little flaws here and there in the paint that bugged me.
So this week I repainted it. This time I went with this amber color, that's in between copper and orange. It nicely matches the round edge of the intake couplers to the throttle bodies. Plus, I got a little more detailed with a set of those tiny brushes you get at the hobby store.
At some point, I may just buy a new engine cover for $95 and start over clean, or send it to someone here on the forum who does custom painting. But for now at least, more so than the yellow, it's a keeper.

Pics here. Just like before, the color varies depending on the light and the angle. And while it's true I'm liking this more than the previous color, I have to admit to what I'm looking at. Two words: orange sherbet.
Meh. It was something to do. Now I need to find something else to do.

He certainly would do a worthy custom job. Here's one he posted recently that's black & white. A little too Oreo for me, but damn that guy has skills.
