Squeaky Steering, very high pitched

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone had encountered squeaky steering while idel, or pulling out of /into parking spots, or even at very low speeds around corners. Mine squeaks only when the wheel is turned across the 10-11 o'clock position. Weather its first or second pass its the same noise. Its a high pitched squeak like youd find on a door or shopping cart before it gets WD-40d. Sounds like its on Driver's side front wheels. I think it may be the steering column (maybe u-joint?) because it squeaks at the same spot over the entire turning range.

PS pump isnt misbehaving and has full fluid, the Steering rack also looks great, wheel bearings and ball joi nnts are good (afaik), doesn't squeak over bumps.

I'l ll get an audio clip up soon.
Any suggestions?

I've had intermediate squeaking like you've described. I don't know what it is, however my car is in for a PS line right now. The tech said that the rack was leaking, but not anything to get concerned about. (For context, I lost ALL my ps fluid on an hour ling drive two days ago...)

Maybe when I get the car back it'll be fixed!

Update: got the line fixed, haven’t heard the squeaking thus far! It doesn’t always happen, so this could just be a stroke of luck for me. If it happens again I’ll dive deeper

Check ball joints as well. They will squeak if they are done for.

Week-ish later update...

There is a new high pitched whine for me, consistant with revs, sounds as if it comes from passenger side. My guess? I roached my PS pump when I lost all my fluid. Gotta get a stethoscope in there, will hopefully report back with good news...

Not something I thought of, however I don’t get the feeling that’s what it is. It only comes up anywhere after 1800 revs. But I’ll make sure to have a look once I get the chance, this might take me a while... the Wallet is a little upset...

Have you “burped” the system?

If it squeals all the time belt is going. You can do bar of soap test. Take dry bar of soap and rub it on belt lightly as it runs if it goes away then its belt

So i stabbed the gopro on earlier, the wind noise is very hard to hear through, but here is a video of what it sounds like.

You may not hear it at all, most of the time I notice it on decelleration (engine making least noise)
