Preload: FrontEnd floppy Too Much or Not Enough

Hey guys installed my coilovers yesterday and used the recommended amount of preload. The back is great but the front is a little floppy, not too bad but there is a boat like motion. It take bumps and holes great but with the small undulations of the road it's kinda floats/flops a bit.

Should I increase my preload or reduce. I've read some posts about preload but still unsure what to do.

Which coilovers did you get? If they have adjustable dampers it sounds like they're set too soft, this will have you relying too much on just the springs and will give the floaty feeling you described. If that's the case click it all the way down to the lowest point (count the clicks) then go up again the same number of clicks and add a few more (if it's a 32 point adjuster go up another 5 for starters, and if it's a 15 point adjuster go up 2 or 3 clicks).

Usually spring preload is in the 1/4" range give or take a couple mm.

Got the Tein street flex. Using the recommended clicks. 16 way. 12 back from the stiffest setting.

I'll try more to the hard side.

Yeah, you should be set much firmer, being only 4 of 16 will be too much spring, not enough damping. I'd try it right in the middle #8 click, and see how that rides, should be 100% better. And you might want to revisit how your back is adjusted too.
