245/45/18 winters or 225/50/18 All Seasons for winter??

I need your help in making this decision.

I run 19" stock tires for summer. I am looking to get good winter tires in stock 18" size. I am from Northern Virginia region and we do not get a lot of snow here. So, I was thinking of getting a set of winter performance tires. But there are not too many options in 225/50/18 size. I was also considering getting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s as we do not see a lot of snow.

I found a good deal on a set of lightly used Dunlop Winter Sport M3s(9-10/32s tread left) in 245/45/18s. There is a good deal on new Michelin A/S3 also, though they are more expensive than a used set of Dunlop winters.

Should I go with used set of winters or brand new All Seasons?

Appreciate your help.

I'd go w/ the 245s if you're not dealing w/ much snow, your car will be better planted w/ the wider tires. As far as which tires, haven't read the reviews on the Dunlops but the A/S 3s get good reviews. If the Dunlops get good reviews (on cars similar to the G) and the price is exceptional that would be a good choice.

Can I install 245s on stock 18" wheels? ( My car is G37xS, not sure if the wheels are 18X8 or 18X7.5).
I am getting Dunlops for half the price of Michelin A/S 3s. I am more inclined towards getting Dunlops, was not sure on the fitting.

Be careful what you say about the snow in northern va or we might have another 2010 winter again I still have nightmares about the time I was stuck in traffic for 8-9 hours

Sorry to hear that. My drive to work is only 5-8minutes, So I was able to get home with no issues.

I have now driven the AS-3's in two mild snow storms and would recommend them for anything more than a couple light snows a year. Love them spring - fall, but really need a better all season or dedicated snow tire for snow belt areas.

All seasons, for the most part, just don't cut it in the snow. They really meet the minimum performance needed, but there is a HUGE difference between the typical all season vs. winter tire in snowy/icy conditions.
