G37S.... and the winter wheel dilemma

Hey everyone,

So I have a 2008 G37S. I want to get winter tires and wheels.... I'm going with the 225/50 R18 for the tires. I really have no idea what do to for the rims. Are there any cheap options out there that will CLEAR the disc brakes? I heard this is the main issue.

I want to get generic black steel wheels for the winter but I'm not sure if these clear the disc brakes or not. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I really don't want to spend a lot of money on winter rims, so any advice on cheap rims that will actually clear the disc brakes (steel or any rim) will be much appreciated.

Thank you all!

There are couple winter setup in the f/s section and stated they will fit over big brakes. They might fit your needs. Good luck.

We have 18" wheels that do fit over the sport brakes. Unfortunately no steel options, but a handful of lower priced aluminum is there. Check this link Winter Tire and Wheels or call me direct.

i bought the black sport edition a7 rims from tire rack for my 2009 g37s. the 18" clear the brakes no problem and look great. and for $129 you can't go wrong. my local tire dealer quoted me a higher price for black steel rims than those!
funny thing is i get more compliments on those cheap rims with the winter tires than i do on my stock rims!

I used the tire rack winter wheel and tire search for my 2010 G37S. The rims I got didn't clear the front calipers and actually scraped a caliper on one side as i tried to fit them on not realizing they didn't fit. The first snow was falling and I didn't have time to send them back. Luckily I had a set of 5mm spacers laying around and they gave me just enough to clear the calipers.
The options they have are cheap but its a limited selection. You'd think a company like that would know what fits before they recommend it.
I ended up with the MSW type 20 (18 x 8) on Blizzak LM-25 (225/50-18)
$520 for the rims $580 for the tires.
Their on their 2nd winter now and work well. However there is no getting around the truth a RWD car with 330 hp does not deal well with snow. If you try and get moving from a standstill with the rear wheels below the front (even if its just a pot hole) you might be screwed. It's happened to me.

Getting towards the end of the season but I looked into similar options. Pretty sure the steelies wont fit over the brakes. There are not too many options out there. Although it wasnt the cheapest route, i picked up a set of G35 19" rays for $600 used. I stuck with a "stock" (forged) wheel because i didnt feel like buying cheapo rims and then bending one on the abundant potholes we have in Ohio. I went with blizzak lm60's and can honestly say ive been throughly impressed with its performance. I kept my old car incase the G sucked in the snow but after driving it though the winter, ill be selling the beater. I'd recommend a forged wheel at a minimum. Especially now that spring is around the corner im sure you could find something cheap. Be cautious of "used" blizzak tires. After 3000-5000 miles the "winter tread" zone is gone and they are basically all-season tires.
