R1 Premium Rotors and Corrosion

Recently installed a set of R1 premium slotted rotors. After the first hard rain there is heavy rust/corrosion on all rotors near the hub (area where pads don't touch).

Anyone else experience this with R1 rotors. Any advice on getting rid of it? Simple wash did nothing.

Thanks!

Had them on my 350z. Worst rotors ever! Cheap.. And warp easy. I even had the zinc plated "premium" ones. Never again!

I've read older 'reviews' that say similar, but I've read plenty of others that are from very happy owners.

Honestly, the performance is great, and a definite improvement over stock. I've beat on them pretty hard, heated them up nicely, and they still feel great.

I've read that some people just clean the rotor and then spray with high-temp paint, and no more corrosion.

What pads are you using and what performance improvement did you notice from these rotors?

posi-quiet pads. more bite, less fade, a smoother feel (vs. stocks that were a little warped, lol) Still have stainless lines and new fluid to install.

And, they looked great...for the first month or two.

How much braking are you doing to experience fade before switching to the new pads and rotors? Were you doing Auto X or tracking?

No, just repeated high speed braking. Who knows, maybe wasn't really "fade", maybe just "worn out" pads/rotors...?

Seems like the common remedy is to paint the rotor face near the hub with high temp brake/caliper paint. Some have even painted the entire rotor face (to cover slots/drill holes), and allow the pad to "clean" off the paint, leaving only the affected areas iwht paint. They swear it doesn't harm the pad...I'm curious

Thats a standard problem with 1 piece rotors...just paint the part where the hub sits and you should be fine...if you dont wanna deal with this anymore, get 2 piece rotors.

If you bought the premium ones the center hat should have been painted already. This is a normal really unless you get a rotor with painted centers. Even the oem rotor gets rusted when you wash the car and let it sit. The brake pad would just clean them off after driving.
