Michelin Super Sports Bought July 2012, rears BALD!

Hey Guys,

I got 4 new Michelin Super Sports from Discount Tire Direct 6-26-2012. They were installed 6-29-2012 when I had my 19" rims refinished.

The Fronts DOT Code is 4M 2R

The Rear's DOT Code is 4M 1C

I went to Infiniti Dealer today (11-28-12) and they Service Advisor at Infiniti said your Rears are Bald. i was like, what?? They are Brand New Almost!

The Fronts are FINE, plenty of Tread. I stuck my finger to feel. the REARS are literally down to wear indicators, past the wear indicator, almost BALD!!!!!!!!!

I NEVER had a tire go THAT fast in my life. That is 5 months and I looked at teh Mileage and I put on approximately 9,000 to 9,500 miles.

I see Michelin has a Warranty up to 30,000, SO I am going to Call them tomorrow.

Any Ideas? I had car lowered on Eibach Springs, BUT had it Alligned within 3 miles of putting the springs on at NTB. No Pulling or anything, and I don't do Burn Outs in the car, so I am stumped and NOT Happy.

Dropped over a Grand (well $500 flor the 2 Rears basically) on Tires that lasted 5 months!

I will let you knwo what happened? Could it be a mechanical issue that has to do with the springs, or being lowered???

The Bandit................

Have your rear toe checked. And the warranty is only 15k if they are staggered fitment.

Is the wear on your Michelins even? or is just a certain portion of the meat that's worn out?

You should have waited a few days after putting Springs so that they settle then get alignment. Did the shop give u. Before and after alignment sheet?

Yeah I'm betting your alignment is screwed since you didn't let the springs settle at all before getting one done.

This used to happen to me ALL the time in my 08 coupe. I was buying new tires damn near every 6k. I was dropped on S-techs with rear camber but no toe. I now have a 11 G in which I slammed, maxed out the rear coils, but no issues. The difference is that I installed the toe bolt for more toe adjustment. You can align your wheels daily, but if your toe is off, you'll experience the same issue.

Allignment is fine andI don't think that was the issue. My car drove straight as an arrow. Discount Tire Guys said IF allignment was off the other tires would be jacke or show signs of wear! I drove about 13K mileson these tires and the guys at Discount Tire said to him it looked like I had them aired up too much which caused pre mature wear!

Anyway, I got a 50% rebate from Michelin from the Warranty, basically they paid for or discounted about $118 per tire .

It still cost me $420 for 2 New Michelin Super Sport Tires at Discount Tire without the tire replacment warranty. My fronts were fine and had plenty of tread left.

Again I got my car fully alligned right after (2 miles to be exact) my Eibach drop, so it wasn't the allignment, these tires are soft and don't last long at all.

I am going to NTB next week to get an alligment JUST TO MAKE SURE since I have a 3 year warranty. They hate doing allignments under warranty, but oh well.

If the "tires are soft, and don't last long at all"
Why are you're front tires still good.

"Discount Tire Guys said IF allignment was off the other tires would be jacke or show signs of wear! I drove about 13K mileson these tires and the guys at Discount Tire said to him it looked like I had them aired up too much which caused pre mature wear!"

Your first post said you had 9K miles.

Discount tire guys only install tires. I was installing tires at 16! Takes no brains.

I have 7,000 HARD miles on my Michelin PSS, and they look like brand new. Except for a little outside edge wear due to excessively hard cornering!!!

Here are my alignment specs, tell NTB to match it, you wont have any problems then.

Just because your car drives straight does not mean your alignment can't be off. It can still be off spec and still drive safe. There's no other conclusion other than your alignment being way off. Did ntb give you an after sheet of an alignment?

Possibly like someone said is that the springs settled and threw your alignment off after you aligned.

What are the odds, the rears are overinflated without the fronts also??

It all points to some nasty toe settings.

Without seeing them or knowing more, my money is on a combination of overinflation and bad toe setting.
