Tires for '08 G37S - Hankook vs. Bridgestone vs. Goodyear

Hey guys -

I have a couple of options for new tires from the dealer (though I'm not going to buy it from them because of their generous markup) and was wondering if anybody had any preference or comments regarding the 2 or 3 i'm looking at. I owned a Jeep before this baby so I almost choked at the prices! The dealer was suggesting:

1. Bridgestone Potenza RE050A BW 245/40R19 (Rear) - $871 Installed
Bridgestone Potenza RE050 BW 225/45R19 (Front) - $758 Installed

This is what I currently have on.

2. Goodyear Eagle RS-A VSB 245/40R19 (Rear) - $744 Installed
Goodyear Eagle RS-A VSB 225/45R19 (Front) - $820 Installed

3. Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110 245/40R19 (Rear) - $547 Installed
Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110 225/45R19 (Front) - $547 Installed

I'm on a budget like everybody else and was inclined to purchase the Hankook tires which I found at tiretrack.com for about $700 delivered. The dealer was trying to steer me away (pun intented) from purchasing these because they were or weren't 'directional'...as opposed to non-directional and eventually you would get a lot of tire noise. Sounded like a bunch of salesmanship so that's why I'm here! I just want a good quality tire at a good price...I'm not hauling a** and racing all over the place but I give it a go from time to time. Mainly I'm doing city driving for the most part.

Anyway, any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
G

Hankook here. Have no complaints with them at all. Seem to be wearing good. Far quieter than my factory tires. Look a lot better. Handle better. Do wish they would hook a little better but I'm blaming the 365 days of no rain and dirty streets on that.

Go with the bridgestones.
Id currently have hankook evo v12, straight line hook up is awsome, bit when pushed hard on conering sidewall gives way to easy. Not good if you drive very aggresive, imo.
The only plus is the automatic.road hazzard ypur get from hankook.
If you get a flat in the 1st 25% of wear, they can be pro rated for a new one.

Why go to dealer for tires?

Have you looked at Discount Tire? Also, take a look at the new Michelin Super Sport although it's a bit more expensive.

The Hancooks seem like a good deal to me if you are on budget. However, I've read recently about their QC gone down a bit. Some got vibrations with the Hancooks after multiple balance attempts because of out of round tires. So if you go with these tires, I think you should have your local dealership do it.

And please don't buy the Goodyears.

If you don't need all season capabilities then I'd go Hankook. Great tire for the money, have not had one complaint on them yet. Call me if interested

I've been reading some further reviews and am reconsidering now. I've heard the Hankooks are pretty soft and don't last too long. I need a tire that's gonna last me a couple of years!

where are you located?? I believe the hankook's a summer tire?? if your in places like California where there's not much rain around... Hankook should be pretty good.

did you try getting the price straight from a shop that you are doing installation at?? probably be a better price?? maybe.

I'm also trying to decide between the hankook and the bridgestone 760, I thought about going with the hankook, but I'm afraid it might wear too fast, and I need them to last me a good amount of time. Also looking at the falken 452, any opinion?

How do the Hankooks wear compared to Bridgestone etc? How long have you had them?

Don't buy those Falkens. They are ok when new but after 10K miles, they can get really noisy and have high possibility of cupping. Spend a little more and get something better.

If you want more life of the tires, get UHP all season tires. Summer tires don't last long. RE760, V12 generally last longer then other summer tires, but it also depends on how you drive though.

Please heed this warning. As for tire selection, I'd go with Bridgestones.
