Factory painted wheels are generally going to be a lot more durable than a repaint. The factory wheel paint is some type of acrylic urethane and primer over a perfect raw metal finish, then baked under heat lamps (this was my understanding of the process last I new).

Sure - any paint shop can do a quick prep on your wheels and spray a coat of paint on them to make 'em look pretty...but don't be suprised if they look like crap in 6 months. Getting a good prep and decent quality epoxy/acrylic urethane paint that's going to hold up will probably end up being more expensive than powder coating, and still not hold up as well.

The more I think about it, the more it make sense to just save up a new set of wheels in the finish I want. Thx for all the input.
