Brakes Squeal with New Pads

I have a 2008 G37s coupe (75K miles) and my brakes have always squealed/squeaked when backing up in reverse ever since I purchased the car (28K miles). I just replaced my brake pads with Akebono at a local tire shop. Everything was very quiet for about 3-4 days and then the squeaking came back in the morning when the car was cold backing up in reverse. I took the car back into the shop and they resurfaced the rotors again and said one of the rear rotors was slightly warped. The car was quiet again for 2-3 days and now the squeaking is back in the mornings. The tire shop said the squeak is caused from the rotor being warped and recommended replacing them. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue. I read on this forum about someone using synthetic caliper grease and the issue went away. Will buying new rotors fix this problem or is it inherent to Infiniti/Nissan autos? Thanks.

Not sure how bad of a squeak you have. Using a semi-metallic pad will give squeaks, it is the nature of semi-metallic pads.. Also, have you bedded in the pads (not sure if that helps with the squeak).

I've heard that braking in reverse makes squeaking noises is not uncommon, so I wouldn't worry about it. I know it's annoying but not an issue to be worried about. Even my X coupe with non sport brakes squeaked in reverse in the morning. Big brakes squeak and squeal when they are not up to temp.

If caliper grease wasn't applied to the backing plates and all the moving metal pins and clips then that could very well be the culprit.
CRC is good stuff

The squeak is extremely loud and it's much worse now than before when I had the original brake pads on with 3mm left on them. The tire store techs said they bedded in the pads. It only happens in the mornings when the car is cold but since I leave the house at about 4am, it's driving my neighbors crazy since you can hear it from a few blocks away

I just called my local Infiniti dealer and the service tech said a warped rotor should not cause any squeaking issues. He said you should only feel issues when braking with a bad rotor. He also said I could have just received a bad set of pads and that's what might be causing the noise.

The last thing I want to do is spend more money on new rotors and have the noise come back 2-3 days later. I asked my local tire shop about the caliper grease and they said they used "silicone caliper grease" on the pads. They also said they have replaced many Infinitis with Akebono pads and their customers are really happy since all of the noise/squeeks disappear. I'm bringing the car back in on Friday, so I will check to see if they have the CRC available to throw on them.

Good luck. Keep us up to date. If it's that loud, finding a solution may help someone else with the same issue.

I had the same problem forever on my 08. I just switched out my pads recently to stop tech street performance pads and also changed my rotors to drilled and slotted rotors and never had the issue again. Wet or dry, cold or hot, they haven't squeaked.

So, I brought my car back into the local shop and they put on brand new rotors on the rear (Wearever) along with replacing the rear brake pads again with brand new ones (Akebono). It's only been 4 days and the squeak is back again and now it's even worse. Here is a video I took this morning:

Honestly ever since I got my coupe every morning I back out of the garage I squeak like hell. After that initial squeak I don't really hear anything. After talking to a few different places they all have said that it comes with the big rotors.

Although one guy said he used to knock off the flat edge of the pads and it fixed the problem for his customers. I am not quite sure I would want to take a chunk off of brand new pads.

Just read another thread about tire shine causing squeaking issues. I've actually used a lot of it (Meguiar's Hot Shine) over the last few days. Anyone else ever heard of tire dressing products causing these types of issues?

Also, I was thinking about asking the tire shop to replace the pads with a different brand just to see if it helps. Has anyone had Posi Quiet or Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic pads on their G37?

I bought my rotors off of brakeperformance.com. A lot of people on the Corvette forum use them. They turned out really good for me so far and I would recommend them to anyone! Hope that helps. The squeaking did stop for me.

SiKHG37 - Do they only have 1 brand of rotors on that website (Brake Performance)?
