Noise while turning, mechanic blames rusted rotors.
So, I'm having a bit of a discussion with my dad over this one... Decided to ask you guys, since you probably have more of an authority on this subject.
We've got a 2009 g37x, that since recently (well, a few weeks ago I guess) has been making a faint clicking/ticking/knocking sound when turning left. This sound I hear when I sit in the passenger seat, but you can't really hear it when you drive.
My dad went in for a regular maintenance today and asked them to check it out. The mechanic wrote this up:
"Noise appears to be from the corrosion of the inside edges of the front brakes."
Now, I'm no expert, but wouldn't that noise always be present if it was coming from the brakes? The rotors don't actually change position with respect to the wheel, when the wheel rotates to turn left (and no noise when it turns right).
Here is a picture of the wheel with the rotor in question:
The mechanic suggested changing rotors and pads, of course. (For $700 lol). Which we've declined.
To me the noise sounds more like a CV joint but very quiet.
What do you think?
PS. The mileage didn't change while the car was there, so I don't think anyone actually drove it to check.

If it only clicks when you turn the wheel while driving chances are its your CV joint. If the sound is faint now that's good because you likely have a fair amount of time, but I'd look into replacing it sooner than later. It's not a tough job if you have an impact gun.
