Rotors: slotted vs. drilled vs. slotted and drilled

Rotors: slotted vs. drilled vs. slotted and drilled

So, im ordering the Akebono BBK from ConceptZperformance on Monday but dont know the pluses and negatives of the different rotors. As the title of this thread states, "drilled vs. slotted vs. drilled and slotted" Im looking for opinions and tech info on the different styles of rotors. What advantages or disadvantages do each style have? Im going with the StopTech rotors FYI if thar makes any difference. Any hints or suggestions, advice is as always appreciated.

From what I've gathered slotted if you do any kind of autocross/track, drilled for street/looks.

Drilled rotors are for cooling purposes, and the slots help to sweep away dirt and debris.

I've been reading up on the differences. And I'm leaning towards just drilled rotors.

Stoptech is supposed to be a quality brand, I just don't want to end up with a cracked rotor as sone drilled rotors are prone too.

Since this is going on a daily driver I wouldn't bother with drilled rotors unless you just want that 'cool' factor. So long as you have quality high temp brake fluid and quality brake pads, you probably wont notice any performance advantages with drilled rotors.

Keep in mind too that it also helps to have a good set of tires to reduce that braking distance. Not those garbage RE050A's.

Just my $0.02.

I've got Stoptech rotors and pads. They are good, however they do create a lot of brake dust. It doesn't bother me too much, but it's annoying nonetheless. For instance, I washed my car then went for a drive, after that there was a thin layer of dust that had accumulated.

Oh and if you're gonna be upgrading your brakes, go ahead and upgrade the brake lines, techna-fit stainless steel lines.

Thanks, I'm getting the complete bbk from conceptzperformance. It has new SS lines, and I am going with the Nismo pad "upgrade". I'm still on the fence about rotor style though. The "cool factor" makes me want the slotted and drilled, but for practicality sake I'm leaning towards the drilled rotors.... The bbk costs after shipping about $1750, so I figure I shouldn't skimp on pads.

I went with drilled and slotted, and I don't think there's gonna be much of a difference between drilled vs drilled and slotted if you're using your car as a daily. Unless you're pushing it to the limit with your commute to work... lol. I don't regret getting them at all. Do know that these type of rotors will have a little noise in cabin.

What do you mean by a little noise in the cabin? What's your experience?

Remember that the rotors have a different type of surface rather than the smooth stock oem. The surface has grooves so it's gonna make a little noise, however it's not that noticeable. Just be sure to bed your pads properly and you'll be set. I have no complaints about my setup.

I had stop tech slotted and drilled on my last car. They definitely make a grinding noise when you stop. It's not loud or annoying but it does make noise.

I'll say sound, not noise. Using the word noise seems too harsh.
