G37 original stock brake life
Getting oil change at a Nissan dealership and was told rear brakes need to be replaced and front brakes are nearing replacement condition. Car is 2011 model with less than 27K miles. Is this typical brake wear or am I being taken for a ride?

Pad wear is really dependent on the driver. Is it possible, yes. But most of the time (from my experience) the front pads wear quicker than rear pads (as the calipers are bigger and more braking force is sent to the front). 27K miles does not sound too far off for pads if you are a mildly aggressive with the brakes. Ask to see the old part and verify with your own eyes that they were in fact needing replacement. That is what I do.

In my personal experience, I have a 2009 G37S and still have the original pads/discs with 64k miles on them (mostly highway). However, I will need to replace the front pads and probably the discs very soon.

I have a 2009 S model with about 60,000 and the brakes are ready to be replaced. The rears will wear out faster if you engage the traction control a lot. The traction control applies rear brake to stop tire spin and if you are a spirited driver you can wear the rear out faster than the front (used to do that on my G35)

I was on stock pads and rotors until about 75k miles but I kinda milked it and I also do alot of highway travel, in my experience the rears wore down faster than the front

As a few other people have stated... brake wear and life of pads is largely dependent upon driver habit and style.
If they say the pads need to be replaced and you are skeptical, you can ask them to show you the pads and prove it. It isn't difficult for them to do a show and tell instead of just telling you that the pads are bad.

Just did my first front brake job after 5 and a half years on original pads and 33K miles. I still had 40% left. I didn't like the longer pedal travel feeling so I swapped out the pads. About 50% city/highway. I'm usually swapping out front pads at 35K to 40K on other cars but usually down close to the indicator. By the way, this was one the easiest brake jobs I've ever done.

What's the phrase I'm looking for... Ahh. "Your mileage may vary".

Have any of you guys use the carbon ceramic pads? I used them on my g35 and really liked them. They produce less dust, they were much less noisy than the others until towards the time to replace them and they are way more friendly on your rotors. I got them from Stillen. I tried to get the dealer to put them on my wife's EX but they made a bunch of excuses, she doesnt keep teh car as clean as i do and since it is not driven much i figured just go with it. Just curious on the G37 and with the bigger brakes what experience you guys have had.
