Suspension Upgrade

I have a G37xS Sedan which I purchased not to long ago. I am debating whether to install Swift Springs, Hotchkis sway bars, and GTSpec FSTB. The car is used as daily driver car.
I want to improve the handling on the car but at the same time i dont want to lose the ride comfort. I know ride comfort decreases with after market springs but how much difference is the ride going to be.

Will I cause any kind of damage on the bottom of the car such as scraping with the car being lowered.

Any advice is appreciated.

The sways and FSTB will induce oversteer, less body roll and tighter handling but don't really affect ride quality. The Swifts are a little more mild than the Eibachs and even with those I was happy with the ride quality. I would say it was 10% to 15% stiffer than the OEM Sport springs. I'm on some quality coilovers and have adjusted the damping and rebound aggressively but it can be adjusted to OEM feel. I have the front lip and exhaust with low cans so I do scrape occasionally going up or down my drive at the wrong angle. I also have to be aware or curbs and cement parking barriers since the front usually doesn't clear them.

Not sure about the XS but I have S that I dropped on Swifts. I would say ride comfort is pretty much the same. Handling got much better. Installed the Eibach sways shortly after... 1 word from 20 yrs ago when I was in high school that I can use to describe... FILTHY!

If you get swifts 1st I think you'll want sways.

I haven't scraped on anything.

I believe the AWDs have a bit less clearance due to the transfer case so the spring drops are typically less than the RWD drops. The mild drop of Swift springs will firm up the ride but shouldn't be too severe. Like Rks mentioned should still be a pretty good ride although it really depends what you and your passengers are used to. What may seem perfectly acceptable to me may be unbearable for you. And yes, you will tend to run into situations where scraping will occur, especially steep incline drives or overly large speed bumps, just takes some acclimation and more cautious driving in places that are unknown to you.

^I agree with Blnewt.

I was in the same position as you and decided to upgrade mine...no regrets what so ever.
I have the GTSPEC FSTB, but decided on an alternative from the Hotchkis sways.

Here are my threads that might help on making your decision...

Hope this helps!

rks is right. Ride quality isn't affected at all by aftermarket sways and a FSTB, just improved handling.

As for oversteer, it's probably better said that the sways compensate for the cars tendency to understeer with the OEM sways. It's a corrective mod.

And all the FSTB will do is keep you planted when launching hard into a turn from a dead stop, or when making quick corrections at very low speeds. (Auto-X)

I don't have aftermarket springs, and couldn't care less about ride height, so I can't speak to that... other than to observe the Swift Springs sure do get a lot of positive feedback on this forum. And that when lowering your car, you're reducing the life expectancy of your sway bar end-links, and will be upgrading them too sooner rather than later.

Thank you guys for your input.

For all of you that have the GTspec FSTB. Does the strut bar rub against the hood.

I have the GTSpec strut brace, Swift springs and, Hotchkis sways on my '12 S sedan. I love this set-up. Aggressive look perfect stance and great handling. You won't be disappointed.

Edit: No hood issues with the brace.

Yes, it rubs against the hood liner in two spots. I've got it an 1/8" from the engine cover, and I lowered the engine cover a bit (long story), and it still has scuff marks near the bends on the top of the bar. So occasionally I buff it out with metal polish, but mostly just ignore it.

The Cusco bar has better fitment in that respect, and is a little bit less expensive, but I think the GT-Spec is a better looking product... once you polish the begeesuz out of it.

Here's a couple pictures. They're two different cars, just coincidentally similar. (Mine in the one with the GT-Spec bar.)

I have the swift springs on my 10 journey sedan and love them. The drop is only .8 in front and 1in in the rear. The ride is a little stiffer from the factory set up but very tolerable. I have had no scraping issues as of yet, even going up and down steep driveways. Perfect springs for someone who wants a more aggressive stance without being slammed, and a slightly more stiff ride.

the drop on an AWD is lower than a RWD. AWD is heavier in the front

But don't they have different part #s (and spring rates) for the AWD & RWD Gs?

Anyone dropped on Swift springs on sport wheels? Does it look silly without spacers or is it tolerable?
