Front Sway Bar not centered

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, i've done a bunch of searching but couldn't find anything on this. I have a 2012 G37x which i purchased from an insurance auction (no warranty) this car was never in an accident, had some light flood damage (not hurricane sandy) anywho, car runs and drives perfectly. Though i noticed the other day (while doing an oil change) that the front sway bar is not centered (an inch or more off) shifted towards the passenger side. I used a rubber mallet and shifted it back to center. It had shifted back again when i checked it the next day, not sure how quickly it shifted back. I then disconnected the links and pulled it back into position by hand (bushings are well greased). reconnected the links and checked to make sure everything is tight and torqued to with spec. I then drove it around a bit again, came home and checked and found it shifted again (always towards the passenger side). I even replaced the bushings and it still slides over....

Anyone have any idea why it is doing this? bad sway bar? bad links?

Thanks

I should also mention that it is the OEM sway bar and links, been considering upgrading to Hotchkis sway bars if it'll fix the issue

Hmm... perhaps you have a non-OEM unit, or a damaged one? The sways should have stoppers on them to prevent what you're describing.

Here are a couple of images to illustrate.

Edit: Sorry, i missed the part saying you have an X. I don't know if those have the stops or not.
Edit #2: Looking at this FS ad, looks like you should have it! - https://www.myg37.com/forums/private...2009-g37x.html

Maybe these will work.

This vendor is no longer active on the forum, but any vendor who carries Whiteline can get them. If you go this route, maybe post up in the Vendor WTB forum and see who can help.

it must be damage or something because the stop on the drivers side is sliding around. i can move it around by hand, it has moved all the way to the radius (the only thing stopping it from moving any further)

thanks for the help!

Now i need to figure out if i'm going to go aftermarket or not

All G models have the stopper on the sway bar regardless of drive type.

yeah, the stoppers are there, the one on the drivers side must be broken because it is moving around. I just ordered a hotchkis kit, gonna just upgrade and be done with it

Smart guy.

You will NOT be disappointed with hotchkiss sways. Sway upgrade is definitely the best mod you can do for the money. The difference in handling is night and day.

Do you think there will be any issues if i swap out the front sway bar only for now and wait until the spring for the rear? it is freakin cold out and if i don't need to do both now i would rather not

No issues at all if you were to do that.

I did both of mine in the garage, on my back. The fronts were easier iirc. Just a matter of removing the 20 bolts or so holding the splash guard in place. The rear was a bit more of a hassle. I didn't drop the exhaust when doing it, but sort of wiggled the bar in between. Make sure you lube the bushings well.

Change in understeer/oversteer characteristics, but easily neutralized or tweaked by changed tire pressures. Otherwise, nothing bad really. I ran just fronts for a long time (although i also had the 6pt brace together with it at that time.)

Doing the rear bar will add another 20 minutes onto the install time. Both bars are super easy. Do them both!!!!

i plan on doing the rear but would perfer it to be warmer, up here in michigan it gets freakin cold. I'm forced to do the front now before i end up breaking a link or something. If there is a day about 45+ i can get my garage warm enough were it'll be no big deal...actually that would be today but the sway bars don't come until tomorrow
