Springs Install? $$$!

Bought some Eibachs to put on my G and got a quote from a local mechanie saying it takes 5.7 hours and will be $600. Does that sound about right? I was hoping it would be much cheaper for the install!

He is either over quoting you or doesnt know what he is doing. Our tech here at ModBargains does it in less than 3 hours and charges around $250

I would say $300 is closer.
The mechanic thinks he has to remove arms etc.

All that entails the front struts is:

Remove 3 upper mounting nuts.
Remove brake line nut.
Remove lower mounting nut, and slide bolt out.
Strut comes right out.
Do not remove upper control arm, nor disconnect upper ball joint.
Compress old spring.
Remove nut.
Compress new spring.
Install nut.

Reverse to install back in car.

Rear spring:

Raise car
Remove wheel
Remove on bolt from lower control arm
Lower arm
remove spring
Install spring raise arm tighten bol

yes he is quoting you fixed rate like an actual dealership. Infiniti calls for 5.7 hours so thats what their techs get paid to do, even if it only takes them 2 hours. A good place could have it done in 2-3 hours depending on what kind of spring compressors they have. Id say 2-300 would be more like it like others have said.

Ya that quote is definitely high. I did a buddies without a lift in 2 hours so I wouldn't pay a shop more than 2.5-3 hrs flat rate to do them.

$250-$350 is the most you should pay for a spring install. $600 is very high.

It's really not that bad if you're semi mechanically inclined. Took me about 4.5hours at home with manual spring compressor/hand tools. Didn't you have a local mechanic install all your other mods for you? Surprise he's quoting such a high price.

You should go pick your region on the forum and see if any other local members can recommend a good place with a good price.

Don't do what I do.

You can use the car's leverage to remove the front springs.
Remove the top nut while raising suspension with a jack.
Place a jack under the frame, slowly lower jack.

No nothing will come flying, the strut shaft will even keep the spring from falling.

Both Eibachs, and Swifts did not need a compressor to reinstall, I just pushed down on the strut plates, and had my son screw the nut on.

It's not bad with some basic tools, jack and jack stands. But if you're not mechanically inclined, then I would agree with everyone else saying that $600 is way too much.

Call Speed Concepts in Aloha, ask for Dan, tell him Ryan with the grey Infiniti sent you. they can install your springs cheaper than $600, they installed my coils for under $300 if I remember correctly.

$600 is WAY high. i had my coilovers installed for $250 cheaper than that...and that was with a second adjustment after they settled.

i hate to say it, but it sounds like to me that they might be taking advantage of you because you're a female. sucks to say, but that may be the case.

honestly i've been hearing about that same thing happening more and more (including my wife until she called me and i went down to the unnamed shop to set them straight). read an article the other day of a 60's year old woman that went to meineke to get her just oil changed, and was charged for stuff that "she needed"....$800 later....and they wanted to have her come back to get her transmission flushed for $400+.

honestly.....i wouldn't even consider barganing with them....just find another shop.
