What the hell brakes?

So I was driving my moms BMW today and I realized one thing I miss the most --> lightly touching the brake pedal makes the car brake with a lot of force and it feels like the car is coming to an instant stop. I have the sport model and I just wanted to make sure that the car brakes lightly if you apply light pressure, and you have to press it quite hard to get a hard stop?

Not sure why, the bmw felt quicker and it's not a 335, it's a 330xi. Maybe because of the AWD?

I would chose the G over the bmw because of appearance, interior, and options however I just found the bmw a bit better of a drive. Probably going to try and shoot for an m3 as my next car.

Wanted to hear some more thoughts on this.

I think you chose the G for the right reasons. I'll still take my G over an M3 anyday. Just throw some suspension mods on and maybe upgrade the brakes. That should set it straight.

I can't even lie, I love the M3, I loved bmw at first but now the design of bmw's just seems too darn ugly compared to the G but the M3 has curves and humps in just the right places + power to let me chose it over a G. The price tag holds me back though and I didn't want the e46 M3 so I picked a g37 and don't regret it 1 bit.

The G however, feels much larger and heavier than my moms car, probably because it is. Looking to get a drop and sway bars soon though, when I can afford them :P.

The brake issue still kind of bugs me and I don't really want to upgrade the already "premium" brakes.

Yeah, brake upgrades are pretty pricey! The G just seems more refined to me than the M3, I like it because it's sleak and I am in the process of making it my own. Trying to make it where there isn't another G exactly like mine. With all of the people pushing BMW's I think the idea of originality is out the door with them.

I saw a black M3 with yellow accents at school, it looks AMAZING but I'm sure once I start my mods, I won't want to give up the G for anything.

If you want grabby sensitive brakes, install some Teflon brake lines and a more aggressive pad with some bite. Be sure to bleed and replace fluid about every year or so and they'll be just like you described.

Also keep in mind that a lot of your braking performance has to do with how much traction your tires have. Better, stickier tires = improved braking.

Gonna look into that for sure. Teflon coated wire doesn't seem too expensive. Any recommendation on brake pads?

Not Teflon coated wire. Teflon brake lines.

I've driven a 2007 BMW 328i several times in the last couple of months. It is my sister's car. She is vacationing in FL for the winter season.
I have just the opposite reaction to the 3 series brakes. They seem overly sensitive to me and the run flats make it ride like it has wooden wheels.
I had a 540i for 4 years and don't recall the brakes on it being so sensitive.

Personally, i prefer the ability to modulate braking rather than have overly touchy ones.

When I hit 30k miles I had my brake fluid flushed and they bled my brake lines. My brakes were grabbing like new again. I hadn't even notice that the sensitivity had decreased but i guess thats because it happened so gradually. I had to get used to using less pedal pressure all over again. I recommend a brake fluid flush once/year like BB stated.

I do. I'm not saying they're bad, I just prefer them more sensitive. I think I'll go for a brake fluid flush.

The sport breaks aren't bad they just can't stand up to heat. I wonder if the R-spec pads are any better in that.
