Help with coilover install.

Hi guys.
I've tried searching but can't find anything to help me out. I have a set of Stance coilovers for an 08 coupe. I had to replace the dustboot covers on the front coils because they were torn in many pieces. Taking the top strut bolt out was easy but trying to torque it back down was a different story. How do I hold the shaft in place so I can torque it down to Stance specifications? It's not like the OEMs where I can hold it with an open-end wrench. Also, Stance website clearly says not to use impact wrench. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You could remove the strut, put it in a bench vise, and tighten the nut then reinstall it on the car. You'd have to grip the piston shaft itself with the vice and hold it tightly without damaging the surface of it (this is VERY important). If you don't hold it tightly it will just spin when you try to put the nut on. If you grip it with the vice teeth directly you will damage it beyond repair.

^^and @ BB don't entirely understand your post. you say to put the piston shaft in a bench vise as well as hold it tightly? then you say then you can't grip it directly with the vise?

You make sure there's something protecting the shaft from the teeth. I have rubber jaws for mine. Sorry, I guess I should have made that clearer.

I used my impact gun on my Tanabe coils, there wasn't any instruction not to. No problems for me.

with an impact wrench wouldn't you still have to hold the shaft or else it'll keep spinning? I don't see how you don't run into this issue when an impact wrench is used.
