How low is too low
Couldnt find this in any earlier posts so I was wondering ...
How low have you guys been able to go before you "lose" drivability?"
~~~I lowered mine about 2 inches id say and my ride quality did take a major nose dive but thats not really my concern. I want to see if going any lower will improve my handling /control/ cornering and more...and by drivability I dont mean scraping on bumps and little hills.
If it helps at all here is a side pic of the car rolling ..(for height ref.)
You said it 2 inches is about it. I have coilovers and have had it lower than I have it now, and at about 2-1/2 to 3 inches you loose drivability. I don't run stretched tires and am about 1.8 inches dropped now with 285/20/30 - 245/20/35 tires on 20X10" inch rear and 20X8.5 front wheels. Im aligned within stock specs in both Toe and Camber. I'm spirited with corners and like to power-over drift with no issues. So 2 Inches is the limit IMO. After 2 inches you need to compensate with stretched tires, lower profile tires, even calmer offsets, etc. Remember that at a 2 inch drop some parts of the cars under the car is now about 3-1/2 inches from ground.
My meaning of drivability is driving the car all out like a race car with no issues. If you mean just cruising the car, hell you can slam it down 3 inches and go that low if that's your style.
It helps to have sway bars to cut body roll and to stiffen the suspension with coilovers if you're going to lower. It's not just for performance reasons, it's also to keep the car from bottoming out.
I can go just as low as I was on Tein S-tech springs with my coilovers yet not have the same issues with scraping and rubbing.
I don't know how far I lowered it, to be honest. I DO know that from the ground to the highest point of my fenders, front and back, is 27" (on 20" Vossens with 255/35 tires). I have about a finger's width between tire and fender. I drive it like I stole it and don't rub.
I like it where it is. The ride is stiffer than stock, but not uncomfortable. The handling is MUCH better. I can navigate speed bumps with no issues. I won't go any lower.
