So when did everyone bring in their G's for their first brake service?
Dealership advises at 24K to have the calipers cleaned and lubed,at a cost of $160.

Anyone else do this or advise to have this done?

Or just another dealership cash grab?

seems like something that's unnecessary, but doesn't hurt to do. i'd just skip this since it's already at about half the cost of replacing brakes.

That's a waste of money. When you're due for brakes they'll lube it up.

Unbelievable that: a) they're able to convince people to pay for this; and b) they can sleep at night. They'd probably add $10 in "shop supplies", and then tax, and before you know it this would be a $185 cash grab.

Follow the tangible service requirements in the manual. Anything else is a waste, IMO.

The next time they make this suggestion, ask them where they're taking you for dinner first. It's the least they can do.

I bet all their doing is taking out the caliper pins, cleaning and re-applying brake grease.

That's exactly what they propose to do to get all the dirt and grit out.Make the brakes more effective,they claim.
I'd say it can't hurt,but $160,that will hurt.

This was actually the Nissan dealership,as I take it for quick oil changes there,as its much closer.

Guess business is slow.

Yeah, they must be slow. In all fairness it's not uncommon for calipers to seize (forcing some individuals to have them replaced) if you have Sport calipers I can't imagine them being cheap!

That's why you have a 60k warranty though.

I just got my front hawks brake pad installed and re-serviced rotor for $150 at a local shop last week which killed the annoying squealing sound

I thought I had heard it all, but this one beats all. Total waste of money. You'd be much better off having them bleed the brakes to prevent future caliper rust due to moisture in the lines. That would be a real service job.
