+++Coilover Comparison Guide+++
There are tons of threads on this forum about coilovers; opinions, reviews, rants, raves, etc. but not really one consolidated thread to compare the facts/specs of each available for the G37 coupe (yes all info compiled is for G37 coupe). Since I'm in the process of coilover shopping myself I thought the info I've compiled may be useful to others. Feel feel to contribute or correct info I may have goofed on!
Disclaimer: These are not ALL the coilovers available for the G37, but rather the most commonly used and discussed on this forum...the "big 4" if you will. If you would like to see other coilovers added Ill be more than happy to edit the OP to add more if you provide the info!
BC type BR
- spring rates: 12k/8k
- 30 way adjustable for dampening
- full front upper aluminum pillow mounts
- NO independent dampening/rebound adjustment (is available on ER series)
- height adjustment does NOT effect spring compression
- 46mm piston/53mm monotube
- warraty: 1-year, $95 replacement after
- rear damp. adjustments on side of strut body (extenders not needed)
- damper adjustment "clicks" = yes
- made in Taiwan
- price: ~$900 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: cost, lots of adjustments for money, full pillow mounts = easier install and no spring compressor!, good local reps available for customer service, adjusting height doesnt effect spring compression, I like the side mounted damp. adjustments in rear (no extenders, no seat removal, just reach up in wheel well)
cons: some say noise/fitment issues but I think those have been rectified?, no independent compression/rebound, some say too stiff
KW V3
- spring rates: ?K/?K (couldnt find this anywhere)
- Independent compression and rebound adjustments
- 14 way adjustable for dampening
- NO upper pillow mount in front, uses OEM rubber mount
- height adjustment DOES effect spring compression
- Twin tube design
- warranty: ?
- made in Germany
- damper adjustment "clicks" = yes
- price: ~$1900 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: ride comfort, well matched spring/damper, german quality, independent dampening/compression
cons: price, no upper pillow mount in front = must reuse OEM rubber mount and use spring compressor, height adjustment NOT independent of spring compression
Tanabe Sustec Pro S0-C
- spring rates: 10k/9k
- NO compression or rebound adjustment
- comes with secondary helper spring in front
- NO upper pillow mount in front, uses OEM mount
- Twin tube design
- height adjustment DOES effect spring compression
- warranty: 1-year
- made in Japan
- damper adjustment "clicks" = no adjustment available
- price: ~$875 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: ride comfort (most OEM like ride from many reviews), good dampening/compression even though not adjustable, helper spring up front...only coilover in this price range with that feature, price
cons: no upper pillow mount in front = must reuse OEM rubber mount and use spring compressor, height adjustment NOT independent of spring compression, NO adjustable anything except ride height of course
Megan
- spring rates: 12k/10k
- 32 way adjustable for dampening
- full front upper aluminum pillow mounts
- NO independent dampening/rebound adjustment
- height adjustment does NOT effect spring compression
- warranty: 1-year
- 44mm piston/50mm monotube
- Made in Taiwan (some say at same factory as BC)
- rear damp. adjustments on side of strut body (extenders not needed)
- damper adjustment "clicks" = yes
- price: ~$900 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: cost, lots of adjustments for money, full pillow mounts = easier install and no spring compressor!, adjusting height doesnt effect spring compression, I like the side mounted damp. adjustments in rear (no extenders, no seat removal, just reach up in wheel well), good comments on ride comfort
cons: no independent compression/rebound, gay name lol, not a lot of full reviews to go off, just random comments/posts
Stance GR+
- spring rates: 13k/11k "OEM Style"
- spring rates: 13k/5k "True rear coilover Style"
- custom spring rates available
- full front upper aluminum pillow mounts
- 15 way adjustable dampening
- NO independent dampening/rebound adjustment
- height adjustment does NOT effect spring compression
- warranty: 1-year
- Made in Japan
- damper adjustment "clicks" = yes
- price: ~$1200 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: lots of good reviews from G35 guys on ride comfort/adjustability, one of the more popular coils over there, option of different types of rear setup (OEM vs True), good local customer service reps (Stance HQ in Chicago),
cons: no independent compression/rebound, some complaints of creaking/noise from true coilover design in rear, more expensive than other "value" coilovers
Tein SSP
- spring rates: 9K/8K
- Independent compression and rebound adjustments
- 16 way adjustable for dampening
- Twin tube internal design
- have pillow ball upper mounts (Tein Basics are the same minus upper pillow mount)
- damper adjustment "clicks" = yes
- Made in Japan
- warranty: 1-year
- price: ~$1500 shipped (verify with vendors)
pros: great review from jran76, similar features as KW but also has full pillow upper vs OEM rubber upper for KW, rear damper adjustment is on shock side so no extenders or removing rear shock to adjust
cons: price, not much else known, only 1 review so far

How do you get the top hat off the OEM strut assembly without a spring compressor?
#12
Nope, they are similar but have slight differences in spring rates, piston/shock body specs, etc (see specs I posted). And D2 are completely different as they are a true rear coilover and do not use the OEM spring location, same goes for K-sport. D2 and K-sport may be the same, not sure there.
This may be information to add to the original listing. It may be important for others to know about as they consider their options. Nice write up though and continue to add good information.
