Tanabe Sustec Before and after Hotchkis Sway Bars

First I wanted to thank people at Amplified Motorsport, I bought my Tanabe Sustec a few months ago from them, and just got Hotchkis Sways from them last week and had them installed last night. Always good customer service and fast shipping.

First With Tanabe Sustec Pro without Sway Bars.

I went from stock to Eibach Springs, then Tanabe Rear Spring, then Tanabe Sustec Coils.

the mixture of the Tanabe rear and Eibach front just felt weird.

The Eibach springs and Tanabe Sustec as far as spring rate feel the same, but Tanabe sustec setup just feels more comfortable, the dampening somehow is set better than stock. So, it handles good, and feels better than stock. great stuff.

That was a few months ago, now after adding Hotchkis Sways:

The Sways are a must get mod, I dont know why I waited a year to do this, it should have been the first thing. the car just feels more solid to me, also I am getting less vibration from the road, the steering wheel is alot more responsive and feels sharp. I have pretty new 285 Nitto Invoy tires and all together feels amazing.

I just wanted to put it out there that if you are serious about handling, which for me is more fun than going fast on the streets (you cant always go fast in order to avoid tickets, but you can always take the ramps fast, the yellow speed limit posts are suggestions, lol). you get the point.

there is a DIY guide on here somewhere, it is pretty easy to install. I changed the oil too, since it was due and you have to remove the cover anyways for the sways.

I am pretty happy, going to drive up to Vancouver BC Tomorrow, hopefully I wont kill myself. Ill be glad to meet up with anybody from up there, I Usually grab a coffee on either Sat, or Sun at Stanley Park whenever I am up there for the weekend.

very... upgrading to coilover is definitely good choice. Their pro-s0c are good comfortable street suspension. And I agree with sways! One of the best to get for your car.

Can't say I've really felt the need for sways although my upgrade list is empty now . I've heard the sways can reduce ride comfort somewhat stiffening up the car, any comments? I wouldn't mind the improvement but I don't want to sacrifice comfort... I'm enjoying the feeling of actually having a suspension after Eibachs .

the Hotchkis sways are a MUST. I have noticed zero comfort degradation, the ride feels the exact same in terms of comfort but the handling is MUCH improved

For me really the sways actually on a straight line made the car feel more solid. comfortable really? with G37, I mean my moms 93 Camry is more comfortable than G37 sport stock. so depends on what you want.

I think the steering wheel actually feels like it has less vibration from the road. you will sacrifice your ride comfort with 20 inch rims far more than you would with sways. so you have already sacrificed comfort for looks in that case and I have to tell you the sacrifice you would make by getting sways which in my opinion is far less than the one I made with rims in regards with comfort, to get better handling wont disappoint you.

There's always a trade off to everything...

Date a hot chick = More Maintenance if you catch my drift.

Better handling = sacrifice comfort.

I have Tanabe coils and Hotchkis sways. Yes, I think the sways do negatively affect he ride comfort, but not by much. For me personally, the improved handling is worth the trade off of a little less comfortable ride. But as I said, it doesn't hurt the comfort too much. I'm favorably impressed by how civil the ride is on my G with a host of stiffening chassis braces, stiffer sways, coilovers with stiffer than stock settings, and 20" wheels with 35/30 series tires.

The place I notice the increased ride harshness the most with the sways is when I hit a pothole or bump in the road on one side, it upsets both sides much more now. On a good road, minimal if any harshness is added.

I think you guys have talked me into this mod! Is it true these sways are adjustable and if so what settings are you running? Are the hotchkis that much better than say, stillens bar?? thx in advance

The rears have 3 stiffness settings, the fronts are not adjustible. I have mine on the least stiff setting (hole closest to the ends of the bars). I can't say if they are any bettero ro worse than Stillen's product. Probably pretty much similar.

i've always felt:

sways+stickier tires > exhaust+intake

just keep an eye (or ear) out for those endlinks...

arent the hotchkis front sways way too stiff? 200% more than stock? wouldn't it understeer like mad then?
how are your endlinks holding up?

No understeer for me. Very well balanced IMO. I'm very concerned about the end links. I've been bugging SPL to make them for our application, those things are beefy. He said it's all about demand, so if everyone with stiffer sways (any brand) would call or email and ask for them, maybe it will help get them to the market faster.
