But a code reader for $50 or $60 at Auto Zone or Amazon.com. You can check your own codes before consulting a dealer so you can TELL them what the code is before taking it in. That way they know 1) you already know what the problem is, 2) you aren't one to be BS's, and 3) they cant take you for a ride with the argument that they spend 3.5 hours diagnosing the problem when you both know it reads the code in seconds.

In Texas Auto Zone will do a code check for free for you if they aren't super busy.

GED
ECU is electronic control unit.
VDC is VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL. From the manual on page 5-50. There is more to the explanation if you want to get more details.
When accelerating or driving on slippery surfaces,
the tires may spin or slide. With the
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system, sensors
detect these movements and control the braking
and engine output to help improve vehicle
stability.
When the VDC system is operating, the
“SLIP” indicator in the instrument panel
blinks.

If the “SLIP” indicator blinks, the road conditions
are slippery. Be sure to adjust your
speed and driving to these conditions. Be
sure to drive carefully. (See “Slip indicator
light” in the “2. Instruments and controls”
section, and “Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
off indicator light” in the “2. Instruments
and controls” section.)

Indicator light
If a malfunction occurs in the system, the
“SLIP” and “VDC OFF” indicator lights illuminate
in the instrument panel. As long as
these indicators are illuminated, the VDC

system function is canceled.

Thanks, KLB...I've perused the manual and actually read that part without quite understanding it. Now I do understand. thanks again. I know the VDC can be turned off. I imagine that's when you want to do tricks.

Thanks again...GED
