Better brakes for AWD

As I investigate the G more closely, I am shocked that the sport package on the AWD models is cosmetic only--you don't get the better/bigger brakes!??! Can these be custom ordered? Is there any reason beyond cost/marketing that they are not included? Will they fit under the fugly 18" wheels that come with the sport package?

Thanks in advance for all the wisdom lurking here!!

well the 18's on the G37xS models are virtually 4 front wheels... so clearing the brakes I think should be fine.

see this girl lauren has one of the cleanest 2nd gen G's in the NY area

Is Journey AWD? Is Journey available in Canada? I think the answer is no, so not sure why you would think your reply was contributing to the thread.

Since posting my original message, I have discovered that there are several options to put the sport brakes on the AWD...just a matter of costs and logistics.

the problem with upgrading to a BBK, or even the coupe akebonos is that there are no aftermarket rotors available for the AWD (either fronts or rears I forget). At least this is the current problem with the coupe.

well and it would cost about 2k roughly

The OEM kits are a total replacement of the brakes...calipers, rotors, pads, etc. There are also after-market parts available...with varying costs, quality and headaches.

hmmm are you positive about the X coupe as well? I remember a while go talking to vendors and dealership and they gave me some reason about the rotors why it wouldn't work on the AWD. I may have to look into this again as the ugly rusty blocks they call calipers are really my only aesthetic complaint.

How do you feel the g37x coupe performs in comparision to the g37s? I know the suspesion is different, but I have no intention of keeping the suspension, brakes, sways stock anyway. Sport Package or not. Is there a noticable power difference? Trying to sort out if I should go G37S or G37X since I live in the Northeast where it snows a good amount and I have a fair amount of commuting to do..

Sorry, I should have specified I am investigating the sedan. But since the kits are OEM, there is no reason that there should be any difference for the coupe. This is not aftermarket--they are the identical parts to what would be there from the factory if you ordered the RWD sport package.

I have never driven the G37S so I honestly can't compare. If you want manual, then you're only choice is the non AWD since it only comes in 7AT, which is nice but a bit buggy at time.

As far as power difference, I'd say the 7AT is a tiny bit quicker, especially in DS mode. I doubt it would be noticeable unless the person can't shift the MT.

The AWD is very nice in the snow, which is why I got it since I also do a bit of commuting to work.

Keep in mind the X coupe doesn't have many mods available as of yet. No Sways, Coils, ets. and no sign of them making them. Also the wheels must all be the same size if switching them out which sucks and limits options.

If you want performance/power/good in snow then go with X coupe. If you want aesthetic mainly, then get the S.

I guess the general excuse people tell me, probably because they don't know or want to check is that parts won't work because of the AWD or drivetrain or some crap is different. I will give a few calls around though, keep us updated if you hear anything further. Very interested in upgrading brakes.
