Need Coilover Basics

Im looking for some consolidated information on coilovers.

Im trying to choose between the JIC's adn the KW's, and what is the driving experience like - positives and negatives. Not sure which one is better for mostly street / agressive driving. I would have gone springs but I don't like the fact that the dampers are designed for the spring rates.

I'd like to know what other equipment, for example: camber adjusters, toe adjusters, etc. will be needed and which brands are recommended to bring car back into OEM spec for alignment.

I'd like know which vendors have the items suggested.

Or if there is a link I cant find please post it. thanks.

If your not planning on tracking your car, droping that much coin for coils is plain stupid

I'm not sure I quite agree. If I could find a set of quality aftermarket adjustable struts matched to a specific sping rate I would. I can't seem to find those However with coils you get way sharper handling and overall performance for a $3000 dollar investment than spending $3000 on heavy 20" rims and tires that simply take performance in the opposite direction, but look how many people drop coin on that.

Fair enough, but what exactly are you basing this on. Looks are only one aspect for a car. And just throwing some enexpensive springs on it are just for looks too for the most part - at least in our car's sake. I've modified many, many cars in my life and the best dollar for dollar reward (disregarding cars originally equiped with turbos for the moment) handling upgrades can truly transform a cars on road performance. Afermarket adjustable suspensions make for truly excelent road cars compared to the comparatively moderate suspensions most cars, even sport cars, come with. Again, if there was a matched spring and shock set I'd probably pick it up, but even then it still not neccesarily better than a coil set up. It's only a waste of money if you don't recieve an appropieate amount of return no investment for your money. And while I have no problem with people dumping thousands of dollars to make their car look good - a subjective test at best - it is certainly more a waste of money to me, if performance is a key attribute one is after.

I forgot which coil it was but it was only about 850 dollars. I'm driving on KW and I say even for road driving its definitely worth it. This is just me though so you might want to go with another brand like BC coilover?

I hear ya, I'd love to find a less expensive solution to the problem. I don't even necessarily disagree completely that coils arn't over kill, but it's the only real solution for are cars if you want to make them handle exceptionally well. And while they are expensive, the return on performance is great, even at slow speeds - assuming they are set up right of course.

haha if I knew you were considering it. I would have let you testdrive the KW stock out of the box that night. I still haven't gotten to adjust it but I still like it.

If you arent gonna track it just get BC's. Theyre 30way adjustable dampening and under a grand.

I got the JICs cause at the time the BCs had that rattle issue, which is now solved, and they were the next cheapest option.
