Did some wrenching on Her car, GT Spec style
This weekend we loaded the G up with luggage, parts, and dogs to go visit my parents. The trip takes over a couple hours but serves multiple purposes. We get to visit the parents, visit an old friend who's in the hospital, get Her windows tinted by the only tinter I'll ever let touch my cars, and... use my father lift.
I had all the settings screwed up on my camera so these pictures didn't come out well.
My pops garage:
The lift didn't come until I moved out of the house. I can't count how many times I pulled transmissions out by laying on my back as a kid. This is by far the best tool he ever bought. Never mind the censored part, it's a new mod for a different car entirely (hiding it from a friend).
Had some stuff laying around the house, it was just the wrong color.
I have an awesome powdercoater.
There are a number of posting on here discussing which braces are best and what order of effectiveness or importance they are. The GT Spec front subfrace tie braces are usually bottom of the list. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but as far as engineering theory goes, I think they should be at the top of the list right behind the strut brace.
Here is where they go:
And here they are installed:
Also installed the rear lower tie brace. Here's where it goes:
And installed:
I can't give you a report on effectiveness of the braces as we had dogs in the car on the ride home along with lots of salt and gravel on the roads. I did wash the car this afternoon and it's looking good.

Remember it's Her car not mine and I only do mods that she either wants or gives me the ok on. She shot me down with so many things so far I can't even count. I did get a chance to shoot Her down finally. We were under Her car and she said, "When you going to paint the differential cover red?" That's right, she knows what a differential is. Anyway, I told Her, "No."

pssstt.......hell ya I would do my own wrenching if I had a garage like your pops. Has the freakin' lift in his garage. My buddies the Currie's (Currie Enterprises) had one of those steel structures put up in the back yard to hold the race vehicles and I thought that was the coolest with a couple of lifts. Your pops setup is way more practical, no need for a ton of extra land at your house to put the extra garage.

My dad got that lift over ten years ago. Lifts have come a long way since then and also dropped in price. I think you can get a real nice four post with all the bells and whistles for about $2500 (maybe even lower)(depends on lifting capacity too). If I ever had the space and money, I'd seriously look into a two post lift. There's a lot more involved with setting up a two post and I think they cost more, but I think I'd like to try a two post.
