Blower Motor Issues

Hey guys. I recently fixed the water leaking through the cabin filter that is all too common on these cars, and came to the conclusion that was the issue because the blower motor on the car had gone out. I thought before purchasing a new one to check if it would spin hooked directly to the 12v from the battery, and it did. Do any of you have any insight into what the actual issue could be? The motor seems to be in working order, but will not turn on when actually connected inside the car.

Any help would be great.

Swapped the relay causing the two blower fuses to blow. Would this indicate a short in the motor itself?

The blower motor itself may be good, but the electronics (internal amp) that controls the blower motor (variable speed) may be damaged from the water leak. You could try opening the assembly to check the circuit board- might be able to see if it needs cleaning. Worth a shot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Assuming everything checks out and you have power going to the blower, the unit likely needs to be replaced.

I threw in two 25amp fuses to see where the short was and the motor quickly started smoking leading me to believe that was the issue. Will be ordering w replacement today.
