steering wheel keeps falling
Hi. I am an owner of a 2009 G37x and have the power steering wheel. It will not stay up. it only works going down, and telescoping. Going up does not work. I can lift up the steering wheel but as soon as I put my hand on it, it falls back down. Is this an easy fix or something that requires a dealer to fix. I also added a video. Thanks

Perhaps you could post a video of your issue? It is a little difficult to diagnose based on your description. It could anything from a bad switch, bad motor, stripped gear, etc.
Wish I could be of more help...

Thank you for the video- it helps a lot!
Basically, there are two electric motors attached to the column: one is for tilt and the other is for telescoping:
The motors are a simple worm screw/worm gear configuration:
I would check to make sure that the mounting screws are tight for each motor. However, more than likely the worm gear is stripped and is not meshing fully with the worm screw. The column, technically, is not serviceable and the dealer would only replace the entire column at a deep cost.
If it were me, I would just replace the entire column assembly with a used one from eBay.

Thank you for that info. I just bought the car so it is still under warranty from the dealer. I just wanted to see if it was something simple I could do or if it required me bringing it back. I will not be attempting this. Overall I love this car and still happy with my purchase.

Being that you have a warranty in force, I would get that car to the dealer and have them replace the column. Being that this issue could be considered a major safety concern you should not have much, if any, hassle.
Good luck!

I'm having a similar issue were telescoping works however tilt does not.
Out of both do you know which one of these is the tilt and if they're removable while they're on the car?
I would hate to take on this endeavor when I could spend some uncomfortable minutes taking the motors out. There are a couple of G's in my local yard that I could get them from\
Thank you.

Unfortunately, nothing in any of my copies of the FSM's (G, Q, GT-R) show any useful information on these two motors- let alone which controls which function. Even the wiring diagrams do not agree what does what.
As for being serviceable while the column is installed in the car: likely possible, but with very little free space to work. I do know there was a TSB Nissan issued for the '09 Maxima that involved replacing the two motors which might give some insight:

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
