Headlight igniter smokes / melted plastic
So I've been having headlight issues for awhile. I was using $15 amazon hid bulbs. I'd turn the on off light switch 20 or so times and eventually i'd get the drivers side one to light up. Sometimes not at all, but usually i'd get lucky.
Did some research and people reccomended an OEM phillips bulb instead, so i bought one and went to put it in today.
Well the inside of the igniter had melted plastic. Quite a pain actually to get the old bulb out because it was kind of fused to it. I cleaned it out the best I could and tested out the new bulb. Worked fine, but lots of smoke so i shut it down right away. Some small plastic on the new bulb base started to melt.
So it looks like i'm going to be buying this
Do I need to replace anything else?
Side note: so the plastic tabs on the headlight control unit that hold the 2 clips down that secure the bulb in place, both broke off awhile ago. As you can see in the picture I had them secured down using zip tie secured to the base of the headlight control unit. My headlight was acting up before the tabs broke off, So i'm assuming this hack has nothing to do with the issue, but I guess my question is should I just be safe and buy a brand new headlight assembly? $250 used vs $40 igniter. Idk what do you guys think?
