Passenger Seat Shake/Rattle

I've noticed when my passenger seat is empty (most of the time) bumps/imperfections in the road tend to make the empty seat back shake from front to back. The bottom of the seat is solid, but the back seems to have quite a bit of play. Not side to side, only front/back.

I can hear it and see it out of the corner of my eye. Is there an easy fix?

Back when I had an Audi there was a set of plastic pieces you could replace to solidify the seat back. However, the Audi wasn't a coupe and the seats didn't fold forward.

Is this just a problem inherent to the forward folding coupe seats?

Thanks!

It happens in my '13 sedan, too. It also happened in my '02 Subaru Legacy and '01 Mazda 626. If there's a fix, I'd love to hear about it.

I'd start with tightening the 4 bolts that hold your seat down. Very easy to do, remove plastic trim pieces that are hiding it.

You sure its the seat and not that stupid seat belt guide arm? That thing hits against the pillar and is noisy as hell. I always fasten the seatbelt if no one is in the seat and that seems to help.

My 2010 had the problem every day of its 5.5 year life. It eminated from the top seat cushion primarily because it was loosely attached to the bottom cushion at the pivot point. You could slap the top cushion on the backside or rear part of headrest and it's the same noise you get while moving over rough roads. Neither dealer or manufacturer too interested in correcting the defect. To duplicate, make sure nobody sits in passenger seat during test drive. Make their tech/ factory rep squeeze in the back seat because weight against that top cushion neutralizes problem and you will not prove your case.

I tried fastening the seatbelt this morning and found that it did make a difference.

The seat is still definitely moving. I think it was rubbing on the seatbelt as well, causing the rattle.

Worst seatbelt design ever..

^^^Agreed! I hate that little guide thing. But I got a huge reduction in noise over there just by fastening that belt. The head rest may be a little loose too..i'd check that as well. Glad I could help a little though
