What DRL controller did you use?

From your description, it sounds like you used the CARTECH DRL controller. If so, have you found that it works reliably? I've used it in my installation and it frequently turns the DRLs off when they should be on.

Just curious whether I've got a defective piece or whether it's a defective product design.

I have that issue as well. Sometimes the DRL controller works sometimes it doesn't. It'll leave my LEDs on when they should turn off or they will turn on but them when I drive for a bit they turn off by themselves. I have them wired to my parking lights so the only way I can keep them ON at will is by actually selecting my parking lights and turning them on. I think the controller is using shoddy parts.

i was thinking of adding some LED tube lights as DRL's to the fog light area - see masterpiece photochop below:

has anyone ever worked with these before?

Honestly I think either the Hella day flex Led system or their light bar is the way to go. I've used these before and they are Oem bright, color, and quality. They also have a dim feature when you turn your lights on.

I've never been a fan of these "Oem like" or other cheaper fixtures... I would buckle down spend the money and get some high quality stuff that won't look like you went to pep boys.

i wouldnt be wrapping the car in them, just two small strips in the foglight opening. i think discrete LED's for DRL's are starting to look dated.

It's all about output, I'm willing to bet those aren't going to be bright enough.

Daytime running lights don't need to be concerned with brightness as long as they're visible.

That pic is not during a bright sunny day, but try em out, I like the idea, it's sort of like the older Cadillac and Saab drl tubes.

Below is a pic of my hella drl bars I want to fit into my xcoupe front bumper, this was an old pic when they are on my GTI. Make sure those light bars are white, not that off white/blue color.

no offense intended, but those look more at home on a Jeep than a luxury sport coupe.

To each his own. They may not fit a luxury sport coupe, but by that logic neither should a rope light.

2010 Audi S6, Mercedes cls, S class and c class models had straight bar leds. Made by either Hella or Valeo.

These look Oem, and will look less "pep boys add on"

Like I said I would like to see how these turn out.

i'm gonna disagree - my intention is to have them look factory - how Infiniti *should* have done it. "off the Pepboys rice rack" or "tacked on" is not the look i'm going for. i don't want to stick them in the headlights (Audi) or put halos in (BMW). just two small strips outlining the upper foglight housing.

whenever i get some time to order parts and do it , they will be a clean install.

I don't understand the infatuation with aftermarket LED DRL's. my previous car had them from the factory and I don't miss them for a minute with the G. if you want them for "safety/visibility" reasons then wire your foglights to turn on with the car. whenever I see a car that did not have factory LED DRL with LEDs, I say to myself, hey that guy tacked on some LEDs. and I have yet to see one that looks good and OEM.

that is all. carry on.

I think that could be said about any mod, rims, new bumper, suspension work.... Do they all look good? Matter of opinion.
