Did you get the 3 watt or 9 watt leds?

How hot do they get?

I'm not a huge fan of putting the LEDs in the center grille either, but I like this orientation.



But, I think I like it even better with the chrome strip blacked out.

 

This is EXACTLY the pattern I was going to suggest and I was not wrong! The pictures look awesome!

OP, can you name the eBay seller you bought from please? Or link the LED's you bought! I think plenty of people would be interested, maybe even do their own custom work. But those LED's look great quality! Let us know.

 

I've found the most likely seller, but waiting on op to answer my question above regarding the wattage and any heat that builds up.

But I've discovered many sellers offering the Eagle Eye DRL LED on eBay. I've also discovered that you can get them in 3W, 6W, and 9W intensities.

I'm hoping the OP shows up so I know which intensity he purchased before I make my decision.

 

He's busy reconfiguring the LEDs to the arrangement I posted above.

 

I would be too. I was mildly interested in this project before, but after seeing the contoured arrangement you made, I am pretty much sold on this mod.
It looks like you photoshopped it. At first, I thought it was an actual install. Do we know if the spacing and position of the mesh will allow for that look? I'll be taking a closer look at my lower grille during my lunch break.

I have a sedan BTW, so my actual results may vary. Would I have the same mesh hole size and arrangement as a coupe?

 

Yes, it is a photoshop. I looked at the close up picture of his grille where he showed the various arrangements he tried and it appeared that there was room to support 3 LED's in this arrangement. I have a coupe, so I cannot speak in terms of your fitment. If you are stuck, post a picture and we can check it out.

 

I guess the lower grilles are different. Can anyone at least confirm that the hole size on my grille will work for these LEDs? Here's pictures of my lower grille on each end. I can't apply your design without modification. I'll try for a more level shot of my grille when I'm not being rained on so hard.

I am going to take some better pictures with my DSLR this weekend play around with placement.

I'm also planning on making my lower grille and fog light surrounds darker to match the midnight grille better. The standard plastic looks rather dull in comparison now. I've got the plastidip and glossifier ready. I was going to paint them but it seemed like a lot of work for something that a couple of people have told me will chip.

 

Yo! How do you plan on doing this exactly? I also installed a midnight grille and the plastics do look dull now too. I was planning on taking it to my local custom body shop who does a good job and getting the parts painted glossy black. But is there any easier, cheaper DIY way??

 

I'm going to use plastidip plus glossifier. I went to a paint shop and he refused to do the work. He said it would chip, and that clashes with his guarantee.

I'm sure I can find someone to do it, but I know it's going to cost more than $100.

Plastidip is considerably more flexible than paint, so it may hold up better.

 

I originally planned on putting 3 LED's per side by the fogs. No even pattern could be achieved without mounting a plate etc... so then you might as well mount a prefab light in there. It's more than just drilling a few holes. So I opted for the easier inside grill install. :-!
