Use CREE LED lights! I had a lot of issues with aftermarket HID kits because of the auto on/off system. I just switched to these over the weekend and like them MUCH more than the HID kits I ran in the past:
No relays required. It's a bit of a tight fit on the passenger side (because of the washer fluid reservoir), I had to pop my bumper off on that side to get the bulb in, but it went back on fine. Color matched the factory headlights really well and light output is great. I can't speak to the reliability yet, but they have a 5 year warranty and I would expect them to be much more reliable than the aftermarket HID kits. I put them in the IPL/Aero bumper fogs.

Has anyone actually used those xm-l2 high power led bulbs like the ones in the link for an earlier g37 coupe with the fogs integrated into the headlights? It's the H1 bulb. I'd love to order those

You can see my pics on the first page. They don't exactly match but they're more of a brighter white than the oem hid. Hell I'll post another pic. They aren't the same as a standard led replacement though because they actually have usable output versus being ornamental. Today I also installed the high power city lights to take all the yellow off the front. Next step is to upgrade the oem hid . In the first pic the upgraded bulb is on the left and oem is on the right. Second pic both are upgraded.
