G37 Rust Issues

G37 Rust Issues
Hi Everyone,
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5. Love the car, however it is brutal for rust. I also got the car rust sprayed at Krown every year.
Some of the issues so far is:
1. Rust through the passenger floor panel. (right through, could see the road)
2. ABS Sensors rust issues
3. Covers behind calipers rusted right through
4. Exhaust covers rusted right off
How is the G37? I'm looking at a X or S...I live in Ottawa, lots of snow and salt. I would always get Winters, and I don't drive much as a daily driver (3-4km) as I live downtown and work downtown.

the G is very good for corrosion protection, as are many modern vehicles. rigorous maintenance is key by the owner though if you are in a snowbelt with lots of sand/salt used in the winter. you'll need to be diligent about spraying out the wheel wells and undercarriage and staying on top of rock chips or other surface damage. no different than any other vehicle though.
i am not familiar with the undercoating - i've always been skeptical of those and prefer the DIY maintenance method. granted i don't live in a snowy climate so i can't relate to you situation.
driving 3kms in the cold is brutal on a car. it will not warm up properly and this will actually promote corrosion in exhaust systems since condensation is not burned off. if you must drive such short distances on a daily basis, be sure to take the car out once or twice a week for a good run on the highway to get everything heated up.

i have had rust on the trunk (2010 G27S sedan). First noticed in the curves around the tailights (all loaners on dealer lot had this too), and then noticed on the trunk face near the Infiniti badging.
I have noticed others posting about trunk rust too (and FWIW, mine was not rail dust)
Infiniti fixed under warranty.

Warranty for corrosion...70,000 or 84 months. Unless you drive your car a lot, it appear Infiniti provides seven years of coverage. Not great....but still significant.

Ahem, by 27 I obviously meant 37.....
FYI, corrosion typically means perforated. If the rust hasn't punched a hole thru the metal, it will take some cajoling. Dealer stood up for me, and I give them props for that.

I actually found some recalls when I first got my car as there was some prior recall notices from the prior owner in my car.
There is a recall for the trunk rusting. It was from the rear tail light assembly hitting the trunk lid in the corners and causing chips which eventually rusted.
I have a tiny tiny bit in the one corner of mine too. Im just gonna touch it up. Its not diff than a rock chip on the hood IMHO

I hear you on the '05 Altima rust! Great reliable car for the first 7 years and then someone tells you they need to rebuild your floors. That was my last pre-G repair.
Once you start putting the power down through the proper wheels on a G you will completely forget about rust problems.

This might help, if you have small rust bubbles that are just starting, if you put with a small paintbrush some engine oil on it on a regular basis for a little while it will shrink the bubble to a point. I did that to 2 small bubbles on my trunk and its been 3 years and it did not expand at all. I was told this by an old bodyshop manager at an infiniti dealer.
