Talking Painting Coupe Headlights

Hey ladies n gents,

I messaged several members as well as posted a couple questions on the threads in the "DIY" page but not too many people venture down there and my question(s) remain unanswered lol, so I decided to post it in here.

Ive done some research and seem to get mixed results. Long story short, i plan on painting my headlights within the next few weeks on my 08 PG coupe, and just want to know the correct type of paint. I want to paint my shroud PG as well to match the rest of my car, and then the housing a flat black. i came across an OEM color match paint site that I can get a couple cans of PG colored spray, but I am worried that that might not withhold well because I read that you have use high temperature paint for the shroud/housings?? Obviously getting black engine enamel (if needed) for the housing isnt a problem, but does anyone know if the PG touchup paint cans will withstand the light temperature for the shroud? I plan on putting a lot of time/effort/$ (as im sending them off to 180 for LEDs after the paint) and really dont want to have any peeling down the road or F anything up! any helpful info is much appreciated, thanks!

Why don't you just have them painted by 180 if your sending them off to them for the leds anyway and if your willing to spend the extra $. At least you won't have to worry about the paint peeling, cracking etc...

I did have that in mind initially, but a few id rather just do that myself because thatll spare me $250 for just baking open/painting. I feel that painting isnt a huge issue, i just want to reassure that those paints will suffice, but condensation is a main concern which is one of the reasons why I am sending them to 180. (or Umnitza. still up in the air as to which one I am having LED work done)

In my opinion its worth the $250 to know its being done right. If its not done right the first time (condensation, paint peeling, the seal opening) its ginna be a PITA to do it all over again. Like someine already said, since you're sending them our already for the leds, just have them do everything. If you can'tafford it now, wait til you can.

Yes thats why i am.planning on having them do the sealing. Im not worried about paint not being done right, ive done a fair share of painting in my past so im fairly confident in the work that needs.to.be.done
Not trying to sound rude.but im not looking for opinions on what to do in terms of whats "right", i just need to know what type of paint will suffice to withstand heat. thanks

This is the best idea. I had some 180custom lights. Quickly got rid of them... They do quality work however.

As I can see you are not getting the answer you want. If you want to paint them just ask 180 what kind of paint it is they will tell you and do the math , from there see if its worth it

Lol just to it straight, in doing the painting..and that's that. It is worth not spending 250 if i have access to the right material. I suppose i can.try to email 180 for types of paint but i haven't even gotten an email back in a couple days from them regarding finalized prices lol. Thanks though. Anyone else have any incite feel free to post/pm. Thanks

Since you wanna do a color coded paint I would suggest sending that part to the body shop. No rattle can paint can compare to the professional paint. We all know that, for the Matte black you can diy as it's very easy to do.

If you know a little about 12V wiring I am sure you can install the LEDS. All you need is some pre wired surface mount LEDS from Superbrightleds.com. It comes with double sided tape where you just stick it onto your inner plastic shroud and route the wires out. Very simple!

Check this sealant out! It's the best in the market because it's OEM, hard when cold and pliable when hot.

Why dont you PM RaulG who has done tons of headlights and ask for advice on paint. Or PM breftayka who has done lots of ironman mods. Or just send it out to breftayka he also has a listing on ebay kkkk Also compare prices with 180custom but most members can vouch for these two members. ^^ OR if you are local I know my headlight guy Tommy can do the headlights for you(VA MD area). Make sure you get TSX clear lense swap if you open your headlight up. Most members don't go down this path because hassle, time, effort, afraid it will mess up and it's not cheap for headlights..... GL OP!

Just a FYI. I'm not trying to change your mind or anything but I feel like I need to share. I followed the DIY on here and I now have condensation and some paint is cracking on both lights. NO, the DIY did not cause my problems. They were totally my fault. I didn't prep the areas enough for paint and I should have used the OEM sealant. I'm going to redo them again whenever it gets warm outside.
