MAN! This post is RIGHT ON TIME! My windshield started off with a chip and has progressed to a full-blown crack...that keeps getting longer. Now it's time to get that replaced. Will call my Insurance first and then prepare for a ~ $300 out of pocket cost if it is not covered.

Not sure about the price, but states vary on window replacement. Here is what Texas says...

I have a great insurance company. My rates are lower than most and their service is excellent. They just don't give away free windshields.

Auto Insurance Deductibles for Windshield Repair in Texas
I don't have a rock chip. Those are fixed for free. I have a huge crack halfway across requiring replacement. It's going to cost $235.

235$ is not a bad price at all. They come out to your house and replace it?

Mobile to your home or work is an extra $30 through Safelite. Which is more than fair IMO.

There is huge markup on auto glass. Since it is not insured, I would call around and see what you can negotiate. Also I believe right now is their "slow time". If you do call around, make sure they know it is "out of pocket".

How are you guys getting it for $235? When I inquired, it was in the $400 range...damn. Out of pocket.

That quote is through Safelite. It does include a discount through my insurance company. I'm not sure of the full price but I believe it was just a little under $300.

That's Nut! BB Comprehensive will over your lost. But a OEM glass on G37 is about $1000 or less. So $250 is not that much. I would not go with aftemaket.

I'll have to give them a call to see what they can do. I have pock marks all over my windshield. at night you cant tell but as soon as the sun or light hits it, it looks like a fairy **** glitter all over and I can't see anything.

I have never paid out of pocket for an OEM windshield and doubt I ever will. Yes comprehensive will pay if I file a claim. I'd pay my $250 deductible and they'd do the rest. Or I oculd simply pay about $250 and get windshield form Safelite and not file a claim and my insurance not have to pay anything. That's what I'm going to do, no need in making them pay for something that I don't even care about (OEM glass) just to be an A-hole. That's how premiums go up for everybody. If I cared about OEM glass it would be a different story.

Your insurance may well pay for repair of those chips without any deductible, that's how mine is. If it were rock chips they'd cover it no matter how many there are without a deductible. But not complete replacement. Cal them, they are nationwide. They asked me what insurance company I had to make sure it wasn't covered completely and offered the discount by agreement with my insurance company. 1-800-800-2727.

^Thanks! I will do that at some point. It's not high on my list right now as it's "overwintering" but will consider once it gets warmer out and I drive it more.

My insurance covered my windshield replacement. They were hesitant about paying for an OEM windshield at first but they finally approved it after the glass company called them a few times.

Thanks for the advice!
