2010 G37 Window Weather Striping Melted Away
Hello,
Long story short, I live in Texas and over the summer the weather striping of my 2010 G37 melted away (all the way around) and this happened when it's just out of warranty due to mileage. Has this happened to anyone else's G37? I've not seen this in any car ever.
The dealership won't replace it for free and I called up Infiniti HQ and they told me it's out of warranty and they don't know where the car has been so they won't be paying for the replacement.
Frankly I'm very disappointed with Infiniti's response to this matter. I paid for a $35K "luxury' car that can't even stand up to the Texas heat. What's worse is that this melting of the rubber is not even subject to the mileage "wear and tear." I've attached a couple of pictures.
I would love to hear suggestions on what I should do next.
Thanks for your time.

Have them painted to match your body color, would look much better too

Unsure if that is 'melted' - but yes, it looks defective. Looks like something chewed on it
Something similar happened to my friends Mazda6.
Where in TX are you?

I see you are in Southlake. Because there is only one Infiniti in San Antonio and they do that no-hassle, one simple pricing here, I ended up buying my car from Crest Infiniti. I highly recommend that dealership. Avoid Gunn Infiniti or any Gunn dealership like the plague!

Oh believe me it's melted alright. It melted around all 4 passenger windows. I still remember when I got the melted rubber on my fingers over the summer. Crazy part is that last summer wasn't even as hot as the 2011 summer. I'm in San Antonio, TX with one of the worst, if not the worst Infiniti dealership ever.
I was in San Antonio for 4 years while I was in the Air Force, and I tell you what... I do NOT miss those roads over there! Are they still working on 410?
But yeah, get your window trim painted, it will look nice. A lot of sedan guys have done it and it looks real well. I think some have used vinyl overlays and it did not look bad either. Whichever way you decide to go, please post pics and your choice, it may inspire me to do my Coupe's...

If there's a TSB I'd definitely try another dealer, many TSBs have been handled out of warranty from a dealer willing to goodwill the service. Worth a shot.
Vinyl wrapping the trim is a good semi-solution, it'll take care of the chrom but won't address the sorry rubber
Here's my DIY on the vinyl wrap if you choose to give it a shot

Have the same melting issue on my '07, but oddly only on one door. The rest of the doors, they're cracking. I always thought the melting had to do with when the car was in the shop for body repair (After an accident.) I didn't think they removed trim while drying the paint.

I have a late build 2010 that sat outside in the heat all summer (110+ several times). I certainly don't have that problem...and if I did Infiniti would be expected to replace.

I just may have to consult with a lawyer about my legal options...

They should replace with the TSB I'd think. Or give the Gunn dealership a shot if Crest turns you down again.
Also I bought my car from Gunn in San Antonio, had a great experience, but I suppose the experience varies by person/salesmen. In Feb 2012 I got a 2012 G37 Prem, Nav, Sport, illum kickplates, trunk mat, tint, paint protection for $36,700 at 1.9% (no haggling either). They also gave me $2k more on my trade than the Austin Infiniti dealer offered and were $2k lower on the G as well.
Anyway I understand experiences vary, my experience in Austin was awful, everyone always says try a different dealer if you get the run around at one of them.

Definitely something wrong with that stripping. I live in Dallas and park outside at work and often see the dashboard temp gauge read 115+. Mine (09) have never melted.
Frustrating!
