Instrument cluster swap

Instrument cluster swap
Quick question. If I got a instrument cluster from a 11 coupe would it be a direct swap into an 09. It looks like they are all the same unit even in the sedans. I just prefer the newer color scheme. Also the odometer would keep my mileage since its digital right? Or will it only display the new cluster mileage .
Thanks

I actually tried this swap about a month or so ago. Didn't get far enough to tell you how it works. I couldn't figure out how to get my cluster out. I believe there's 2 screws where the cluster top part where it meets the dash up by the window. Couldn't get those out and I basically ended up giving up and putting it back together. I am curious about the mileage thing though. If someone can tell me how to get the damn cluster out of the dash I'd be willing to try it again.

Well after sifting thru 6 pages unrelated to my search, I found this link. There is no DIY but they make it sound possible. There is a link within to the G35 forum where someone changes the physical LEDs. Still looking for an answer on the mileage question though.

It's easy once you remove the trim pieces around the steering wheel, steering wheel, and under dash trim. There is only 4 10mm bolts holding it in place from under the dash, you will see them. There are 2 on the left and 2 on the right. One is hiding behind some wires I believe. But there isn't anything behind the dash. It's easier than it looks, just get right into it without fear.

Yeah it is, at first I was stumped like most people. Then I took my time and checked the FSM and it helped me find the bolts to remove it. Once bottom dash and wheel trim pieces are removed you'll see the 10mm bolts. Just get under there and look up at the cluster from under the dash, and you will see the metal bracket that the cluster is bolted on. Once removed it lifts right up and out, nothing at all holding it behind the cluster. I should of took pics but if anything I can walk someone through it. Just don't let it fool you like it did me lol only 4 10mm bolts are holding that thing in, then carefully remove the pins from behind it and everything else just is cake once its out.
