How do you remove glass screen over speedo

Hi,

I just bought a G37s and it seems there is a water/drink stain on the inside of the glass that covers the speedo/rev counter. Can I remove this glass to clean the inside? And how??

I don't think it's glass but rather plastic so be careful removing it and cleaning it. Sorry I can't help out on how to remove it, my guess is you have to take the whole assembly out and remove speedo, etc first to get the plastic out. First in, last out ...

It's plastic, not glass. I wish it was removable/replaceable because mine is scratched up a ton and annoys me when there's direct sunlight on it.

Try something like Meguiars PlastX to polish/clean it up. It may cover/remove some of the minor scratches as well.

This does help. Won't get rid of the major scratches but definitely a cheap way to clean it up. Just be careful about the dirt/dust that's already on there and use a quality and clean microfiber cloth to avoid more scratches.

Fixed!

So after much digging and a lot of effort I have a brand new meter screen installed

The part itself is called the "Unified meter control unit front cover" and costs about $35 direct from infiniti - i just picked it up from my local dealer's parts department.

Installation takes about 3 hours, and you need a couple of suitable prying tools. I have full pictorial instructions of how to remove the dashboard pieces and in what order to remove the instrument cluster and replace the cover, but I cant upload it - it seems I am limited to 250kb upload!? The pdf I created from various parts of the infiniti service manual is 1.5Mb. I can send it to anyone who is interested.

Next job for me fixing paint scratches/chips and the stupid bit of plastic on the steering wheel that's scratched!

Badger, please send it to me. I'm very interested in doing this as well. I might even try to piece together some plastic scratch protector crap onto it too.

wheresmyspam (at) gmail (dot) com (my go-to forum e-mail )

Also, you can pick up the plastic bezel piece on the steering wheel for 30 bucks as well (the 2010+ non-scratching kind). I saw it on Circle Infiniti's ebay page. (Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-INFI...9018ce&vxp=mtr )

Thanks!

I read up on this and while it may get rid of big scratches, it can possibly introduce a lot of micro-marring which may look even worse in sun light.

It should not introduce a lot of micro marring scratches, unless there's dirt or something in between it. I use it to polish my headlights after I wash my car, it also helps protect it from the sun/uv as well.

The plastic used on the instrument cluster is way finer than the polycarbonate on the headlights. I'm just giving a word of warning on it, because there are people with other cars that made their covers worse by polishing it.

Should be in your inbox... And hopefully attached to this thread soon courtesy of Cereal2k... Basically stuff compiled from the service technicians manual.

And that's great about the steering wheel plastic - does it require removing the airbag to replace (I probably should look in the service manual, but it is about 5000 pages!). Bit worried about setting it off and shooting it into orbit!?

It does involve taking that unit out, but it's not really a big deal. If you can do the cluster cover you can definitely do this.
