2012 Sport Lights
#16
The "unique sport headlights" on the sedans differ from the non sport headlights. In daylight on a white or light colored car they both look identical. But as the sun starts going down you see where the chrome in the sport housings darkens as well. Certain situations where the darker housings will show more is like when driving in tunnels at night, or parking in a shaded area, or when clouds come out right before it rains on a sunny day, or right before nightfall. Also try looking at the headlights at different angles, like from a 2nd or 3rd floor window, or even viewing from a distance like in the dealers parking lot and you can see extra shadow detail in the chrome housing. I had my car next to a non sport and was upset that I paid extra for something I couldn't immediately see (you see the effect better with lighter colored G's). The effect is subtle but can be amazing if you know how/when to enhance it. The best way to sum it up is that the chrome absorbs dark reflections like your rear view mirror in your G, whereas the non sports just reflects dark colors like a regular mirror. Take a look at the Infiniti commercials where the sport sedan is driving and the one where the car changes colors. You can see the effect in some of those commercials too. But in ideal conditions the headlights can appear as if the housings are completely blacked out, yet return to chrome when its bright out again. The effect is more like a subtle optical illusion and something extra to brag about. They go well with the midnight black grille. Im not sure if theres a price difference if you were buying the headlights from the dealer, but if the non sports are cheaper by $100 to $200 dollars, buy them instead and have the housings painted black. You'll feel better "seeing" what you paid for as opposed to waiting on the ideal light/shadow conditions to show what you paid extra for.
